See Link. Focused on the offense for the first 3 weeks, so we turned our eye to the other side of the ball. Couple things that have stood out to us in this game and all 4 games, really. Unlike Yurcich, what we thought we were getting in Diaz - blitz-happy, high-risk high-reward aggressive man coverage, "break serve" as often as possible by selling out to generate takeaways. Second, anyone else surprised how painless the learning curve has been installing this new system? IDK whether that's a credit to Diaz, credit to the players, or both.
Interesting that we complain about receivers not getting open but he points out that play action is how we are getting them open. And for that to work ... you need some threat of a running game. Likes the left guard...he helps the running game.
I believe the offense is much better but I still don’t have much confidence that if we get in a shoot out with another team they can get the job done and it’s not Clifford, RB’s or the OL I’m worried about, it’s the WR’s. Most good teams have the same problem but great teams don’t like Georgia, Alabama and Ohio St and that’s why they’re always in the hunt for the playoffs. We gotta do a better job catching the football and if we do we can beat anybody on our schedule.
Don’t get me wrong I’m proud of the way the team is playing just pointing out what I’m worried about.
Receivers need to catch catchable balls and occasionally come up with a "circus" catch if we're gonna keep winning in October.
I'm worried about our running game still. Yeah, the big runs are nice but we haven't done a good job with the 3, 4, 5 yard runs. For a lot of our runs, it's all or nothing. I think we are 98th or 99th in run effenciency, simply because we aren't getting consistent yardage. It's all explosive plays, which are great but you can't count on them all the time. You need to be able and consistently get 3-5 yards.
@roaminglion the RB by committee also has something to do with those numbers. I believe the 2 freshman RB’s are still getting better so the run game will keep gettin better. You may be right Roam but at least we’re seeing good improvement over last year which is a good thing. Hopefully Allen and Singleton get most of the snaps going forward.
