@rip yep so am I, and my grandparents spoke polish, and never heard of it before either. But I can damn sure put a hurtin on some pierogies  and Haluski!!

I miss getting the homemade pierogies from our Polish church down the street that my Grandma and the ladies used to make!! Hard to find down here in Jacksonville except when I can get the wife and girls to make them. Got Grandma's old recipe!!! You can take the boy out of NE PA but you can't take the NE PA out of the boy!!

@navylion lucky for me, my neighbor (Borowiec) makes her own and shares. I respond in kind baked items that contain; fat, cholesterol, sugar, gluten, nuts and dairy. (I think that covers all the "bad" stuff)

That is all it takes for a defensive lineman to get past our o-line - just a little push push.  Turnstile U !!!!

I predict that to be a thing of the past moving forward with Yurcich and Troutwine

Thinking it's translating to yank, yank; as in yanking our chains.

@been-there-ii: My grandma used to say " don't push the river, it flows by itself". She had Polish blood in her.....does that count??

@tsuga Counts in my book!  My Lil' Suzy used to tell me she was 50% Polish, until her sister did one of those ancestry tests. lol According to 23 & me, the only thing Polish about her, was her last name.

Speaking of ancestry, if I were to wander around Italy, would I be Roman?

@navylion

I know what you mean, Navy.  My parents lived with my grandparents back in the day.  My grandmother made some great Polish dishes and helped maked pierogies for the church block party.  Another staple was bleenies.  Loved halushkie and the Polish Kielbasa was a must around Christmas & Easter.  How about boilo, another NE PA coal region concoction!  That was some potent libation!

Ukrainian here...  The only thing close that I've heard to this is "to give the push" which means to send away or firing someone
