If he is a serious upgrade, then save a mass exodus we will see it next year. From our depth chart, everyone except Scruggs (center) and Tinsley (WR) should be back. The offense really should be a juggernaut if Allar is everything we think he is. All the pieces will be there.

Clifford is a good QB, but not great... Allar can be great.

Clifford sucks and if Allar is the alleged upgrade you speak of he should be playing now.

Sorry Roam, it's not gonna happen, it should happen but it's not. IMO and in all seriousness, JF is not the HC to take a team all the way; I realize that is a very difficult thing to do for 95%+ of HCs with the exception of one offs but I just don't think he is capable of even a one off season unless the schedule is really weak. Basically he is a solid 8-9 win/season coach which really isn't that bad, but the other, key wins per season that are always "wait till next year", well....in my book, next year has come and gone.

In regards to Allar, the truth of the matter is that he is a lot of hype so far, and if he isn't the real deal on his own, I just don't see JF transforming him.

I wasn't saying it was going to happen... I was saying there are 0 excuses if it doesn't happen because everything is set up for success.

James Franklin is a better than average coach but he’ll always struggle playing top 5 teams. He’s Mark Richt, maybe not that good. Georgia fired mark Richt because he couldn’t beat top 5 teams!

If Franklin says one more time that Clifford deserves to start then I'm going to throw up in my mouth.  And maybe Clifford should man up & say "I'm not getting the job done.  It"s time to play the kid."

@psumark   After letting Levis walk how can we trust the coaches on who is better between Allar and CV? I still believe Clifford gives us the best chance to finish 11-2 and that is the new goal. Best players play I’m not for throwing the season away at 6-2 with a very good chance to run the table. Just my opinion though

@southern-psu-fan   I agree that Clifford gives PSU the best chance to run the table but, sometimes if you are not moving forward you end up going backwards & I sure hope that's not the case.

Drew Allar is a true freshman.  It's so very rare that a true freshman plays, let alone beat out a 6th year quarterback. I'd rather he learn the system then throw him in day 1, but perhaps now it's time to see if getting him experience is better for us.

I agree, I don't want to hear Clifford deserves to play anymore... Play him because he gives us the best chance to win, not because he "deserves it". He's been at school for 6 years, and played in 5 seasons... He doesn't deserve anything other than an equal chance to play just like everyone else

I think this is a lot like the Michigan quarterback situation, JJ McCarthy wasn't ready  Last year because he was a true freshman, so they went with Cade McNamara. This year though, harbaugh had the nuts to pull the trigger and put McCarthy in.

I’ll also go on record saying it won’t happen. Never will with this clown of a coach.

I'm not going as far to call him a clown, I've seen a ton of coaches take over huge programs and never even be ranked let alone get to a top 15 bunch of times.

You can trip over your feet and get ranked once, but not consistently. I just don't think we'll ever get over the hump

@psujoe I wouldn’t say he’s a clown of a coach because he’s good enough to win 10 or 11 games but he won’t beat top 5 teams he just doesn’t have it. He’s Mark Richt, just can’t get over the hump to beat top 5 teams but he’s probably not as good as Mark Richt. It is what it is, what you see is what you get from James Franklin.
Oklahoma St and Wake Forrest are frauds.

If you are watching the Tennesee v. Kentucky game, you will see Levis was no big loss. You've heard me say this many times, I have no clue what people see in him. 1st round draft pick on some boards, and I can't figure out why other than "big guy big arm" scout slobber.

@roaminglion players around Levis at Penn St is much better than what Kentucky has. James Franklin never give him a chance

@southern-psu-fan They were good enough to beat us the last time we played them. Levis isn't good, just admit it. He's not fixing anything we're going through right now, he couldn't even beat out Clifford to start.

I’m pretty sure that neither Levis or Clifford is getting drafted, they’re probably both long shots to even make an NFL roster other than practice squad.

Can someone explain why Cliff was even in the game for that last TD? Is it really that important to keep him in to pad his stats in garbage time while the future of the program stood on the sideline and watched? If there was ever a time to get Allar some game experience that was it.

@psujoe  Levis will be a first round draft pick, maybe 2nd but that’s pretty dang good. You gotta be good to even sniff the NFL. Clifford has no chance but I’ll still be pulling for him. Not beating Ohio St ain’t on Clifford, it’s on the 100 million dollar man James Franklin.

Thats my point also Roam, we shouldn’t be losing to Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska Arkansas and other 2 tier teams.

@psujoe Seeing Clifford in at the end of the game was purely your imagination, he always fakes an injury and comes out if PSU is losing.

@southern-psu-fan Levis shouldn't sniff the early rounds, if he does it will be BUST CITY

Levis is ~6'5", 240, rifle arm, strong as an ox, legit speed, ivy league smart; he's getting drafted in the first round b/c some owner loves the size, arm strength, speed and wonderlick test results.

Those teams aren’t what I would call second tier. 3rd or 4th tier at best with Illini,Razorbacks,Kentucky and Hoosiers being traditional bottom feeders
