So much for looking forward to a great season now that Jimmy has put the distractions behind him. Seems like Cliff has some distractions of his own.......
Quoted from an article in FanNation.......
"The radical reform of the transfer portal has created what's in effect a free agency system, and the new NIL rules allow players to make money legally for the first time.
Now, some players in the Big Ten are going one step further, forming a players association that's now getting attention from power brokers in the conference.
Led by Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, this association of college football players is in talks with the Big Ten on some major issues, according to More Perfect Union, a labor advocacy group.
Including the potential sharing of revenue and getting better medical care for current and former players."
A regular Curt Flood...is that the correct reference?
The Flood gates are open, they are no longer students at all. They are unionized football players. The IRS should tax their, room, board, tuition etc etc. My company supplied truck gets taxed. Regular paying students and non revenue athletes must love these prima donnas.
Lombardi might put his name in the transfer portal...
Guess he is working on his career after football?
I think Cliff saw this coming and instead of graduating, he took the opportunity to design, develop and get a head start on implementing his life after collegiate football business. Dude was never going to play pro ball but he has potentially set himself up as the agent of NILs while still in the collegiate ranks. Smart business dude.
THE END
There really is no easy way around the whole situation; the lawyers will get rich over this one; the IRS is going to get involved; some lives will be better off; some will not change; and some will be worse; if it's not one thing, it's always another to throw a piece of wet cheese at!
I think some of you are taking this way out of proportion and reading into too much. Over exaggerating. What I do know is all college football players taking to the field in 30 days are playing to win. Every college team is going through the same things. Believe me, the players aren't going to stop in the middle of a play and say yeah, I give up. Enough of this distraction bull crap excuse. Season hasn't even started and the excuses are starting to circulate. Lol
Just go back to the old rules and if a kid wants to play give him a scholarship and if they don’t, let ‘em go do something else until they’re 21 and they can try out for the NFL. This ain’t complicated.

Yup, pretty much what they've always done in Baseball. What to get drafted out of HS? Sure! Want to go to college? You're ineligible for our draft for 3 years so stay in school.

Yep, and let the NFL pay for its own development leagues. But that water is under the bridge and the Grand Experiment while a sucess is
- Dead?
- More difficult?
- Anti NCAA?
- Anti ESPN?
I am getting old way too fast.
If the NCAA would man up and just told kids to go to tbe NBA or a development league if they wanted to get paid, kids would find out real quick how much they're really worth.
They actually believe that they are the ones who people come to watch, and that is far from the truth... I guarantee you fans would still pack the stadiums if the better talent decided to go pro or into a minor league. We go to see the name on the chest, not the name on the back.
So the reason for Clifford sticking around for his 5th season finally comes out. He knew he had near zero chance in the NFL so he decided to go back to good ole PSU and try to cash in on any opportunity he could find! Sadly for him the latest I’ve heard coming out of State College is that Allar is blowing away all the lofty expectations and may overcome Clifford and be named the starter for week one.
Cliff is one of the most overrated recruits in PSU history.
Prog
I’m also hearing Singleton is ready to step right in and get 20+ touches per game
IDT Clifford, "The Cincinnati Kid", was/is overrated, IMO the coaching staff just didn't think there was a better option for a starting QB and therefore played an average QB as the #1 QB; could be more of an over rated coaching thing going on?
Clifford’s first year he was 11-2 as a starter. He was a 4* recruit if I remember correctly so I don’t think he was really overrated and I also believe the coaching changes hurt him. If we’ve took a step back it’s at RB but I believe Singleton will change that. I’ve seen many times the RB’s can’t break a tackle, missed a block and they didn’t hit the holes and they’ve been slow. Y’all already know how I feel about the OL so I’ll just leave that alone. It’s a cluster mess the last 2 years and it’s the head coaches fault. The good thing is James Franklin has recruited great and he has the players to get this thing going again in the right direction.
@psujoe Business is business. Cliffy saw an opportunity and he took it. Can't really fault him for that, whether he ends up the #1 QB or not.
@rip I’m jimmy BT 😂
Let’s go out and get 11 or 12 wins this year and people will have a different opinion about Clifford. Personally, I don’t think a true freshman will come close to beating him out for the starting position but if Drew does I’ll be his biggest cheerleader baby, just win! Like Roam said, we don’t care who’s name get to play we just want a win for Penn State football!
Agreed, BT, I don't blame him either. Unfortunately, that bears out what I think is wrong with the direction college football has taken. Too many opportunities that have absolutely nothing to do with playing the game.
So Sean Clifford wants to talk about revenue sharing... Does that mean the athletes will open their checkbooks at the school where the athletic department loses money every year? What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander, right?
Oh wait... you mean we can't claim the money is ours when times are good and shirk all responsibility for the bills when times are bad?
@roaminglion From what I've seen, most "kids" these days think that way. My semi-step son's GF, even though she had a work at home IT job through this whole mess, jumped on the mortgage deferment, amnesty, whatever it was called program. She quit paying her mortgage for a year, spent her freed up mortgage money on all kinds of extravagant toys.($1200 slushy machine, door dash meals, Instacart, etc) Now she can't understand why the mean bank refuses to let her sell her house, until she's paid back that year's money and is current w/ her payments again. SMH

Yes he was a 4 star recruit that has been erratic, inconsistent and plays scared in big games. OVERRATED. I doubt there’s much chance of Allar being named the starter before the season starts but if we’re 3 games in and its the same old Clifford I do expect Allar to finish the season as the starter.
