Per JF, Ford is no longer on the team and is pursuing academics.
We’re one injury or transfer portal entry away from being dangerously thin at that position.
We definitely need Lee to stay on the team. I believe he’s a step behind the other 2 but he’s a great backup and a good receiver so he has his place and we need him. Lee also usually holds on to the ball today was just one of those games with the weather

If Lee stays, I will be shocked. He has eligibility left and isn’t going to pass the 2 freshmen on the depth chart.

Can’t say I’d blame Lee for bolting if he does, if I was in his shoes I’d definitely go. It really didn’t look like he got the same treatment as the other two today and he has proven in the past that he can be a reliable RB that can get the tough yards when needed. This coaching staff deserves a grade of F for the way they’ve handled the RB position over the past 5 years, how many 4 or 5 star recruits do we need before we find one that finally fits?
@psujoe I believe the 2 freshman are better than Lee running the football while I believe Lee is a better receiver out of the backfield. I think he’s to slow getting started and that’s killed us the last 2 years. He’s playing good right now and he’s helping win football games. He’s not a NFL running back and I believe he knows that so I believe he stays at Penn St has a pretty good career in college and get that education and go on and live a great life. Like you said remoh, 1 injury away and he’s back being the starter and he knows that also. I believe he stays.
Good on Ford focusing on academics if that is the case. There is a point when some players has to make a decision re playing or school.
As far as RB goes, without speed an RB is run of the mill unless he is just a punishing dozer, great receiver or at least physically gifted enough to carry out the intellectual aspect of the position; routes, blocking etc.
Disappointed in Ford after what he said about finishing what he started. I'll bet his Grandma is too. Don't blame him for leaving, but disappointed in how he spouted off about staying and then doing a flip-flop. I guess kids will be kids, kinda like recruits that "commit" then "de-commit", lol.

The guy that interviewed Ford when he said those things was on the 247 Nittany Lions Podcast a weeks or two ago and he said that Caziah Holmes said the same things right before he transferred to Florida State.
@psujoe Disagree. Not every 4-5 star player works out. Cain had one good year then got hurt and was never the same. Ford and Lee were both highly rated RBs who don’t have the break away speed that successful college players exhibit and they never really improved on that. The staff identified that and went out and recruited the two stud RBs we are enjoying now.

I didn’t say everyone works out but if you look back there were more than you’ve even mentioned and the 4 and 5 star busts or guys that didn’t fit in our system and decided to transfer has to be well above average.
@southern-psu-fan the thing I like about Lee is what everyone saw when he finally got his chance last year, he proved he can get the yards even when the offensive line is terrible. We really don’t know what he could be behind a line that can block but I really don’t see much difference between him and Allen.
@psujoe Who? And where did they go? Were they successful elsewhere? Not sure your point? This coaching staff does a nice job recruiting. The best PSU has seen in a very long time. Giving them an F for RB recruiting isn’t an objective assessment.

He, along with Cain, frequently missed the hole last year. They both made a mediocre OL look even worse. Allen has better vision and speed.
@rip Weren't they just talking up this kid about his football smarts, that he most likely would be coaching somewhere soon, I wonder if this was another push out to free up a scholly for JF. I thought with all the fumbles yesterday, Ford could have been a sure-handed replacement ... guess we'll never know now.
@bdc Not a push out in the middle of the season. That would be really short sighted.
It's not a coincidence he did this after 4 games. It means he can redshirt the season, transfer after the fall semester, and have 2 years left somewhere else.
@psujoe Allen is much better and today I believe he’s the best RB on the team. I thought Singleton was best but not anymore after watching Allen. We are loaded at RB with the 2 freshman but Lee is a great #2 and we definitely need him to stay.
I also believe Allen is the best but I sure wouldn’t say we’re loaded. Only one guy coming in with next years class and one most likely leaving means we’ll only have 3 rb’s next year and 2 with experience
I'd like to see us recruit a legitimate full back.

Not sure what you were watching because there were no holes and the O’line was horrible and nowhere close to mediocre.

Ricky Slade, the kid from McDevitt and there was also a highly touted transfer and all 3 of these guys were all at least 4 stars. I didn’t follow any of them after they left so don’t know how they did

I wasn’t giving them an f for Rb recruiting. The f was for how the coaching staff has handled things at that position.
@psujoe Go back and watch the games from last year. Not sure what you were watching but the bad OL did occasionally open some holes, especially near the goal line, and Lee and Cain ran it right into a crowd.
