Guys fought hard and didn’t give up. That’s a great sign. The Indiana loss will haunt this team and the coaches for years but yesterday’s performance was a clear message that the Nittany Lions are for real.

Yes, there was some good talent out there, but Penn State was out classed and coached again.  I will support this team as I have always done, but don't think for minute Penn State will win a NC under Franklin and Co....they just don't have what it takes. SORRY!

Go State

Before I buy that concept I will give JF two more years. If PSU is not in the hunt for the National Championship during this time, then I will support a change.

I like your enthusiasm and commitment, but a program and facility like Penn State should not be a second tier team e.g. Iowa, et al. JF caught a flash at Vanderbilt, carried momentum into PSU and honestly won some games by the grit, determination and backyard football skill and instincts by a few key players such as McSorely, et al. and a once in a lifetime RB, Barkely. JF has done a remarkable job bringing in player talent; however IMO he has failed at bringing in stellar coaching staff that has has taken advantage of that talent, and I haven't seen one example of the coaches coaching up talent, maybe I have missed something. One thing that sticks out to me is just the rhythm of the game, especially on the o side, my god, the length of time to get a play in is ridiculous, and when a message board of beer drinking old farts (lol), kids and hangeroners passionate fans can call out the play before it ever get to the QB, well then, there you have have it.

I'm not saying JF is a terrible coach because he isn't, but something needs to change.

This year is a little different you can’t see the drop off in talent at LB’r and RB or at least I can between 2016 and 2019 our players were in position to make a play to win some of the games we lost and we just didn’t get it done but that happens to all teams that play good teams. The wins since 2016 shows we are a to 7 team.

Southern I respect everything you bring to the board and its a helluva lot more than I do; but, a team/program like PSU just shouldn't have a severe noticeable drop off in talent. That O'line has pretty much been a problem for a looooong time and the defensive secondary hasn't been a lot different when you honestly look at both units. IMO a team that gets the two lines shored up and can cover tight, that team can then make up for other deficiencies as long as there is solid coaching leading the way.

From the strategic perspective, the performance of Penn State's offense in the first half was nearly perfect ----- they didn't give the Ohio State coaches much to work on during half-time.  Pure strategic genius disguised as ineptitude.

@psu61 I honestly believe Ohio st would’ve taken Clemson down Saturday they just have better players right now because of Parsons jumping ship and the injuries at the RB position. We will win out and win 8 games we’re not that bad and IMO the offense is gettin better the defense was just overmatched Saturday. Let’s see how we play the weeks going forward I believe you’ll see we ain’t that bad.

@southern-psu-fan I can't believe how bad both lines are, neither has anything to do with Parsons or rb injuries

@cohappy. It has everything to do with it. When you take a NFL caliber LB off the field it makes the whole defense weaker just like when you take our 2 best RB’s off the field it devastated the offense. These were big time losses for the football team and it’s showing up on the field especially when you play a team like Ohio St that has a few better players. How good do you think Ohio St would be without Justin Fields and that monster DE they have? RB’s, QB’s and LB’s are the 3 most important positions on the field they’re what makes the offense and defense click and we got hit hard at both positions really hard at RB. We had the Indiana game won the coaches had a brain fart Ohio St was just better but we’ll win the next 8 games. The Indiana game was a devastating loss but it’s water under the bridge now all we can do is win out and that what we’re going to do this team ain’t as bad as the record you’ll see in a few weeks.

BTW I’m not saying this is a great offense and defensive lines I’m saying they’re better than they’ve looked these first 2 games. Parsons, Brown and Cain were 3 of our best players especially brown and Parsons. Let’s watch and see how we do this week and how Michigan does against Indiana. Clifford doesn’t help ‘em out much he panics and doesn’t step up in the pocket when he could have. Clifford needs to calm down and trust the line because some of the sacks are his fault but if brown was playing Clifford job would be much easier.

@southern-psu-fan

Clemson lost their PRO QB for last weeks game.  They go with a Freshman QB, go down 18 points and find a way to win at the end.  If my memory serves me correctly, Ohio State won the 2014 Title with a 3rd string QB.  Penn State loses a PRO LB and can't beat Indiana???

Southern, from my seat I see a program that is slowly becoming a 2nd or 3rd tier contender if it keeps going the way it is.  I pray every week that JF will learn from his mistakes and adjust accordingly.....and it ain't getting better my friend.  Good grief, 25th in recruiting class right now?

The first two games of this season has been nothing more than a train wreck! From poor play calling, clock management, substitution issues, penalties and a very nervous QB, Penn State will be lucky to pull out 4 wins if something doesn't change REAL quick.  Maryland should be a GIMME this week....well, I am prepared for a fight to the end.  Michigan?  When was the last time we won at the Big House?  Sparty?  looked pretty good at Michigan on the road.  I think Iowa and PSU are even up right up.  That leaves Rutgers and Nebraska....we lose either of those two games and we can kiss our butts goodbye!

Look, this is a season like we have never experienced before. But when you look at the top 5 or so teams in the country, they have adjusted and they are playing good ball.  Penn State is so far behind these other teams that I am not sure what to expect the rest of this season.  Do they have the talent to win out?  Absolutely! Can they?  It all comes down to the coaching from here!

I don't want to hear who they lost at RB, LB or WR.  They have plenty of talent left to win out vs the remaining teams. They do lack depth and unless JF starts winning and does a better job recruiting, 2020 is going to be a typical year for a long time!

@mtnittanylion Clemson would’ve got the same thing we did Saturday night and I’m not so sure Alabama can beat Ohio St. I’ll give Indiana but that’s the first game coaching has cost us since James Franklin got to penn st all the other games we lost our guys were in position to make a play to win the game we just didn’t get it done on the field. Clifford needs to settle his butt down and stop with the stupid penalties and we’ll win out. We’re not a top 5 team right now Ohio St is we’re probably around an 8th place team with the losses just let the season play out and you’ll see I’m right. I’m talking about the losses some of y’all blame on the coaches not every single loss I’m talking about games we had a shot to win.

@southern-psu-fan

I will be cheering these guys on again Saturday, but I don't have the positive mindset that you currently do.  Just to be clear, I am not wanting JF to be fired, I think he is a good person and I think he has done a relatively nice job.  I just don't think he has the right people in place ( coaching) and unless he makes some changes, this is as good as it is going to get.  The OC hire really has me questioning JF right now.  And Pry?  Again, I just don't think he is the right DC either.

There are too many poor game time decisions being made and that is what frustrates me the most.  I would have rather lost 60-0 to Ohio State than lose the way they did Saturday night.  You got to give me SOME latitude here.  Go for it on fourth down in your own half off the field? Two delay of games because you can get a play in within the 40 sec time frame? Run the same play 3 times in a row off the right center for zero yardage?

I hope you are right, I appreciate your side of the story, but I have a lot of concerns right now and I don't think I am exaggerating the problems they are having.  If they lose against Maryland, I am out until they make coaching changes!!! I guarantee you I can call a winning game this weekend if given the chance and I never coached football in my life!

GO STATE!!

Excuses excuses excuses! The bottom line is that elite players do not want to play for James Franklin.

@psujoe. We’ve been putting some good players in the NFL so I don’t know where you get elite players don’t want to play for James Franklin? It’s not excuses, we don’t have the players Ohio St has and we don’t get the same treatment as Ohio St get meaning if it was Penn St Fields was transferred to he would’ve had to sit a year. Y’all don’t see the big picture like James Franklin does plus we do have a new OC and OL coach give it a little time and you’ll see I’m probably going to be right. Beat down on Maryland this weekend will start the 8 game winning streak.

Fact is Ohio st has recruited better than Penn State. Fact is we’ve put some good football players in the NFL. Fact is Barkley, McSorely, Parsons and mikes sanders were great college football players recruited by James Franklin. This looks like a bunch of facts to me not excuses!

@cohappy the OL has got better it’s just not great but it has got a lot better. We had almost 500 yards against Indiana the defense just couldn’t get a stop. Give this new OC and OLC a few games and we’ll see where we stand. We give the Indiana game away and Ohio St is just better this year due to injuries and our best player jumping ship. I’m pretty confident we’ll win out brother. I wouldn’t want to be Maryland this week I know that lol
