Here's some interesting stats on Dabo Swinney regarding his first 6 1/2 years at Clemson (He was interim coach for 7 games in 2008)

1. In his first 6 1/2 seasons at Clemson, he was 9-16 against ranked teams.
2. In 2011 he was 4-2 vs. ranked teams, which was the only time he had a winning record vs. ranked opponents in his first 6 1/2 years
3. In 2011 he won the ACC, his only conference championship in those first 6 1/2 years
4. In 2011 Clemson was absolutely destroyed in the Orange Bowl 70-33 by West Virginia.
5. In his first 6 1/2 years, Clemson was in the Top 10 only once at #8
6. In 2008, Dabo took over a full squad of players, not a depleted roster due to sanctions.

Kinda brings some context to what Franklin has been able to do in his first 5 years here, doesn't it? Dabo grew as a coach, and brought in more talent every year. Clemson had the patience to let him.

I've always liked your posts Roam - mostly facts with data to back it up and with a swirl of opinion mixed in.  As the girls on the corner say ... Keep UP the good work!

That’s a nice list of stats Roam. Well done. If anyone thinks Franklin should be replaced they are crazy. He is recruiting in a level PSU hasn’t seen since their heyday back in the 80’s. We have to be patient. I’m as much at fault for this as anyone. Losses to OSU and Sparty drive me nuts. However, with the talent level Franklin is bringing in, I think they are really close to winning those games on a consistent basis. For what it is worth, after that Orange Bowl shellacking to WVU, Dabo made changes to his staff including hiring Brent Venables to be the DC. That move has paid off big time.

Stats are interesting and they help tell a story. There is one stat Dabo can never match that JF has and that is the # of times he attends his school’s wrestling matches. Franklin was at the last 2 PSU dual meets!

Maybe he's looking for some offensive linemen with an attitude!

JF also helps little old ladies cross the street and he once rescued a kitten stuck in a tree.  I wonder if Dabo can match that stat??

I didn’t know that about Coach Franklin. I like him even more now. Thanks for sharing this.  👍

Franklin is a frequent visitor of the PSU wrestling dual meets. I have seen him sitting behind the PSU coaches many times. I think he and Cael are friends.

Yep, you're right LB...  IMO if there's one thing Franklin has done extremely well, it's been becoming an advocate for all of Penn State, not just Football.

He's been seen at multiple sporting events cheering on the teams, his players have become active members of the community doing charity events and also supporting other teams, and his Twitter as well as his players Twitter's are always talking about the value of academics and doing well in the classroom.

All in all a very good coach off the field, seems to do things the right way here at Penn State.
