We could be 10-2 just like Iowa and never score another point in 2 full games .... I'm not the statistician that Roam is, but what Division Champion in history was shutout in 3 games?

It was a good season.  The team again lost to the Big2 but didn't get upset by anyone.  'Played to the level of the competition'.  WE ARE relevant.  Maybe we were short 1 or 2 pieces, take your pick of receiver, QB, OC.  Maybe two breaks?  Bowl game didn't matter as evidenced by opt outs.  It got us extra practice and a game for the young players.  80 of the other 100 teams would like to be us.

It frustrates me that the world has changed such that people will play the regular season but only in a bowl game IF it is for a NC.  We are teetering on the idea of not playing/faking injury in the regular season and risking damaging our NFL $.  The college paycheck hasn't helped as it is not pay for play/performance.  There will be players in the playoffs that fake injuries when the game isn't close.  But that is where Semi Pro football is going.  I hope that there are enough kids getting a valid education and discipline that those positives outweigh the few that go pro.

The bowl game meant something to Ole Miss, their players and fans were fired up. It was a good season though but could’ve been a special season had they won the Peach Bowl. Penn St has always had pride in winning bowl games especially the big ones. No big wins on the schedule this year and imo that stinks.

Looking at the Bigs bowl record this season, the so called "bigs" all lost (Mich-Bama game currently being played as I type), and the bottom feeders Rutgers, Northwestern, Maryland, and Minnesota all won their games.  Yes I know this means nothing due to opt outs and such, but hopefully the playoff system next year will solve that problem.  The few remaining bowl games will just be fun exhibition games like they were always meant to be, and the playoffs will determine the NC.

Starting next year, the non playoff bowl games will be scrimmages.  Eventually fans will stop watching.

@sky Maybe eventually they'll figure out they can use all the bowls for an actual playoff system. Way too many bowls, if you have to go with 6 or even 5 win teams to fill the spots.

@been-there-ii Or maybe do another group of 12 or 16 teams and do sort of a NIT type event for football, a 2nd tier tourney

@bdc Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

The first thing they should do is address scholarships.  If a player opts out, then they should repay their scholarship to the University.  Obviously they are opting out for big $$, so its not like they won't have it.

Same goes for a scholarship player that hits the transfer portal.  The University that takes them should reimburse the University they are coming from.

You get 4 or 5 players from one team opting out, you are talking about $1M+ in scholarships.  It's not going to keep them from opting out, but that money could be put to good use.

I do think the opting out will be down somewhat next year with the expanded CFP. I think if it was this year, most of the Penn State players would have elected to play.

Embrace the change, its a new world we live in!

@mtnittanylion

Not a bad bunch of ideas you have there buddy.  Also, I bet if Manny was still our DC, our defensive opt-outs wouldn't have opted out.  Just a gut feeling based on the loyalty he fostered within his defensive unit.
