FBS continually wants to separate it self but can't get simple bowl matchups correct.

Screw conference tie in and auto bids.

Good matchup to me... Many on here constantly complained about getting no respect, how the playoff is rigged because deserving Group of 5 teams have no chance, etc. etc. etc.

Yet we get a NY6 game against a deserving Group of 5 team and now all of a sudden Memphis stinks and it's beneath us to play them

Memphis?

You think Oklahoma said "Boise State?" back in 2009?

You can't say with a straight face the AAC is a power 5 and I'm sorry but in no way shape or form is Memphis deserving of a NY6 bowl over Auburn, Alabama etc.  It's a joke as far as setting games.  Their is no justification for a #24 ACC team playing in a NY6 bowl.

Where did I say the AAC is a Power 5? I literally said we got a NY6 bowl vs. a Group of 5 team.

No where did I even imply the AAC was a Power 5 conference. I said that Memphis was a deserving Group of 5 team.... and they are.

As for the Auto-bid system, that's another argument. I don't agree with it either but it's the system currently in place. Nothing we can do about it.

I got ya... I saw that group of 5 and my mind went power 5...

My point still stands in no way shape or form does Memphis deserve a NY6 bowl with better teams sitting in front of them.  It's a joke and shows there is no interest in matching up best of best...

They went on to prove that point by putting a #24 team in over way more deserving teams.

After the 4 that matters it is still like it always was.  Understand Memphis will throw the ball so it is doubly a bad matchup for PSU.  Lower ranked no name team that can throw the ball?

Maybe the good news is we will practice defending the pass but we'd have done that against Oregon.

I agree wholeheartedly, with one caveat...

I'd like to see a system where the playoff is 8 teams.

1. All Power 5 conference champs (proved it on the field)
2. Wild cards - CFP rankings / two highest ranked non-champs (somewhat eye test)
3. One Group of 5 team (Highest ranked)

I know you don't like the whole Group of 5 team being in, but I think it at least keeps it open to team who otherwise have no shot to even prove how good they are. In a way, I think this keeps them satisfied. Also, they wouldn't be playing a team who doesn't really want to be there, they'd be playing a team with a semi-final berth on the line.

IMO that is the best playoff system for college football.

In my system this year would be:

Sugar: LSU vs. Memphis
Cotton Bowl: Ohio State vs. Baylor
Orange Bowl: Clemson vs. Oregon
Rose: Oklahoma vs. Georgia

Fiesta: Sugar winner vs. Rose winner
Peach: Cotton winner vs. Orange winner

National Championship: Fiesta winner vs. Cotton winner

I know it would suck for Florida, Wisconsin or Penn State to get left out for Memphis, but at that point it's really a "life isn't fair" argument. I'd rather argue other who the 2 best wild card teams are than what we have now.

I'm in the camp of the best record from the 10 FBS conferences go head to head in a playoff.   Move from 6 to 7 wins to be bowl eligible and anyone not in the 10 team playoff can get a bowl invite...

I had thought about that, but I feel like it goes too far in putting other conferences on equal footing as the Power 5s. I just don't believe that the Sun Belt Conference is worthy of an automatic bid to the playoff every year.

I hate the fact that people are always trying to segregate a group of teams from the rest... They are all FBS, the best from their conference should represent in a playoff...

Memphis is a lightweight and it’s pure crap that we didn’t get the Rose bowl. Don’t mean that they can’t beat ya if you don’t come ready to play though. Pittsburgh didn’t get a big bowl game last year and didn’t they play in the championship game?

Why Georgia? They lost to garbage SC. and got blown out by LSU. Had they won the conference I’d say they should be in but they lost and got stomped. The committee got it right as for the top 4 but the matchup in bowl games stink. Wisconsin lost 3 games and took a AZZ kicking in 1 of ‘em and lost to Illinois. Gimme a break Wisconsin is exactly what I said they were...average!

Georgia?  You know why but the odd thing is if you look at the disparity between the ranking of GA, Auburn and AL.  I must be missing something.  They gave the SEC East excessive credibility this year?

And gave the B10 East none.

Did they even take their time to think after 1-4 was set?

Because the committee has them ranked 5th. That's why. I don't get to pick and choose who goes and who doesn't. As I said my system would take the two highest ranked non-champions as the wild cards, and those teams are Georgia and Baylor.

Those are the rankings, I didn't make them.

Utah drops 5 spots for losing and Georgia drops 1 spots after gettin stomped and Wisconsin stays at 8th. See what I mean roam, some teams get punished for losing and some don’t. I believe Wisconsin and Georgia are overrated this year. Both teams struggled on offense. I mean, SC and Illinois lol, just absolute bad garbage losses..period BTW I love your idea for the playoffs system you know that

I see where Florida State hired Memphis HC Norvill. I wonder if he’ll coach in the Cotton Bowl.

Utah lost to a 2 loss Oregon team not in the top 10, and Georgia lost to the #1 team in the rankings. Not exactly apples to apples. Utah also played two ranked teams all year... and lost to both. They obviously took that into consideration as well, simply put Utah never beat anyone and had a soft schedule. After having a second chance at a ranked team and failing miserably, the committee lost all respect for Utah.

That's why they treated those losses different. Yes, Georgia had the bad loss but also proved it was a good team by beating 3 teams in the top 15. When you do that and lose, you get the benefit of the doubt. When you beat a bunch of cream puffs and non-ranked teams then lose, you don't get the benefit of the doubt.

Plain and simple. Utah never showed even once it was capable of beating a ranked team. Georgia showed it 3 times.

They got stomped by LSU roam and Wisconsin lost 3 games we lost 2. We should be 5th. We lost tough games  to Ohio st and Minnesota so why don’t we get any benefit of the doubt. Had Georgia played LSU tough in a tight game and be in position to win like we did against Ohio st and Minnesota I’d give to ya but that’s not what happened. Georgia had 2 bad losses

Sagarin doesn't do eye test or recognize AL lost Tua but it has some credibility and lists some good information.  Alabama, Virginia, and Michigan stand out to me.  Memphis seems to be correctly ranked.  You can make whatever argument you want to support your bias.  STill better than having Nixon decide or Osborne deserves one 🙂
