I agree! I don’t mind coaches running up the score if it’s with the backups running it up because backups deserve to get to play and try to score.
The Maryland coach got upset because #9 threw a TD pass as time expired and he’s just plain wrong. #9 is a backup and the only way he gets better is to play and play to score it’s Maryland defense that needs to do something about it if you don’t like it. If it was #15 I could understand him being pissed but our backups need playing time to get better. What Colorado did was classless but what James Franklin did was letting his backups get reps to get better. I’m all for running up the score if it’s the backups running it up. Just the way I feel about it. James Franklin has shown class on the field.
@southern-psu-fan James Franklin was head coach in waiting when he was at MD and it was brought up several times this week in the news and Franklin even mentioned it in his weekly interview. JF hates MD for screwing him out of the opportunity and is going to stick it to them every chance he gets.
From 247.
James Franklin has a history with Maryland. He spent eight years there as an assistant in the 2000s, and the 11th-year Penn State boss was designated as the head coach-in-waiting under Ralph Friedgen during the latter stages of his tenure.
"[I've] obviously got a lot of familiarity with those people," Franklin said during his Monday news conference. He also brought up being Friedgen's successor.
One of those people is current Maryland coach Mike Locksley. The two were assistants under both Ron Vanderlinden and Friedgen in College Park, Md., and now both are head coaches in the Big Ten.
You know I’m a huge fan of Ralph Freidgen because of his years at Ga Tech and if I remember correctly James Franklin took the Vanderbilt job and left on his own. He could’ve had the Maryland job if he waited because they wanted him to be the next head coach. It pissed Ralph off that he took the Vanderbilt job. I believe I’m right Homer but I’m not 100% sure
Franklin first served at the University of Maryland as the wide receivers coach starting in 2000. In November 2000, head coach Ron Vanderlinden was dismissed and replaced by Ralph Friedgen, a Maryland alum and former Georgia Tech offensive coordinator.[7]Friedgen retained Franklin as the wide receivers coach, one of only two assistants to be kept on the new coaching staff (running backs coach Mike Locksley was the other).[8]
In 2003, Franklin's duties expanded to include the position of recruiting coordinator.[5] Since then, he has been considered a top recruiter.[9] His geographic areas of concentration for recruiting were Baltimore, Prince George's County, Maryland, Charles County, Maryland, and public schools in Washington, D.C.[5] In 2005, Franklin departed Maryland to serve as the wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers of the NFL.
In 2008, he returned to Maryland as the offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and head coach in waiting. Shortly before then coach Ralph Friedgen was fired in December 2010, he accepted the head coach position at Vanderbilt.[10]
There is definitely some bad blood but I thought it was because he left Maryland and took the Vanderbilt job.
@southern-psu-fan there’s more to it than that or Franklin wouldn’t be so bitter. It’s been talked about all week up here about how he loves to stick it to Maryland and he will every time he gets a chance. This isn’t the first time he ran the score up on them.
@southern-psu-fan I’ve heard on podcast and on the news all week that Franklin felt like he was screwed out of a job so apparently they told him he would notbe head coach so he left
Was Franklin throwing to the end zone with less than 2 minutes left?
What a bunch of classless punks... Up 45-0 in the 4th quarter and Shaduer Sanders is still in the game throwing bombs to Travis Hunter. FFS.
You mean like throwing to the end zone with 4 seconds left?
Only a complete moron would compare Heisman candidates throwing and scoring TDs in the 4th quarter to backups doing so. LMAOWhat a bunch of classless punks... Up 45-0 in the 4th quarter and Shaduer Sanders is still in the game throwing bombs to Travis Hunter. FFS.

...but sure, arguably the best QB and WR in the country still in the game is totally the same as our backup QB throwing to a 4th string WR.

I love how you think leaving starters in as opposed to backups is "spin".Only a complete moron would compare Heisman candidates throwing and scoring TDs in the 4th quarter to backups doing so. If I'm a HC up 38-7 with 4 seconds left, I really don't see any difference if I have my starters in or not. Why not just take a knee rather than throwing for TD? That's a dick move. This applies to all coaches, not just James Franklin.
Roam, you really are a horses ass..
First you try to compare it to starters, then when shown how stupid that is you shift it to "backups shouldnt do it either".I love how you think leaving starters in as opposed to backups is "spin".Only a complete moron would compare Heisman candidates throwing and scoring TDs in the 4th quarter to backups doing so. Nah Man. You are a goof. You came to your own rescue when I called you out on it. Changed the story to protect yourself. You even kind of answered your own question. Doesn't matter if you're a Heisman, starter or a bench warmer. No need to throw in the end zone with 4 seconds left when you're up 38-7. All he had to do was tell the QB to kneel down and run the clock out. Complete asinine move on Franklin.
@mastert backups don’t get better taking a knee in todays college football. With the transfer portal and injuries the backups need to be ready to go right now not next year. If Maryland doesn’t like it, then have your first team defense do something about it. Backups need to play hard when they get on the field!
Changed my story? LOL. They are both starters. I didn't say Colorado was throwing, I specifically stated two Heisman candidates were STILL IN THE GAME. Then you tried to compare that to backups.
All you called out was your own stupidity and reading comprehension issues.
