I watched the "game". It was interesting but not what I would have liked to see. I do understand that the lack of Oline players made having two teams impossible. Anyway here is a link that I found an interesting read about the game.

Some coaches stay conservative. Don't like showing everything. Having a tall quarterback for a change on the depth chart is more appealing than most think.
I agree with not showing everything, I just miss the days when Joe Pa would have two of his assistants "pick up" two teams. They would then play a Blue vs White game. You would see Blue players with a white pull on jersey and vice versa but it resembled a real football game. Again I believe that it would not have been possible to do that this year due to not enough Oline players to form two teams.
One thing I really liked this year was every time there was a punt or FG attempt they ran it at least twice with a different kicker each time.
@psugrad81 I’m still trying to figure out why we don’t have enough O-Lineman? Maybe you know 81? Lol
According to the roster, we have 11 Olinemen. That should be enough to hold a decent intrasquad scrimmage game, no? Even though they're not all starter quality, maybe if you give them a chance, you'll be surprised and find a diamond in the rough!
@rip Provided none of them were nicked or dinged up. If you were coach, would you take the chance of aggravating a possible injury for a glorified practice?
Good point BT. Maybe I would take the risk if I was desperately trying to find the 5 best (along with serviceable #2's) to put together a decent Oline as opposed to what we've been putting up with the last few years.
@southern-psu-fan We can only buy what they're sellin'. We only get to see one practice, so we want to see it all. They get to see the whole spring season, so they don't care what they show us fans. Grab yourself a nice cold one, sit back and try to relax. It's a long way to Sept! 😎
Jimmy is supposed to be such a great recruiter, but when it comes to OL talent he leaves much to be desired. If I were him, I'd load up a lot of big bodied 2* & 3* bruisers and let them slug it out (don't got to worry about protecting them from possible injury, BT). The ones left standing are the ones that play!
@rip You have a point Bob, ala Wisc or Iowa ball. They get close, but they don't often get the carrot either. Not sure what the answer is.
Some say the only point I have is on the top of my head, LMAO! I think if we went in the direction I propose, the difference between us and say Wiscy and Iowa would be we have more talent at the skilled positions. Jimmy can keep bringing in those 4* & 5* guys but focus on the mean & nasty 2* & 3* grunts who aren't afraid to get down and dirty to solve our Oline woes.
Honestly I'd like them to treat it as a practice, if that's what's best for the team. You only get 15 of em, and if playing a scrimmage isn't what's going to allow Franklin to see everything he wants then I'd rather him do whatever it takes to make the best decisions.
We’ve supposedly been struggling at the OL position since James Franklin got to Penn St and in his 9th year we are thin at OL position? I might not know what’s going on, but I ain’t buying this?
Correction...'since before JF got to Penn State...' Early in his tenure it should have been easy to recruit, YOU WILL LIKELY PLAY AS A FRESHMAN.
I know what your saying, Roam. However, some players are great "practice" performers but not so much under game pressure. That's why I firmly believe that an intrasquad scrimage under game conditions (as close as possible) has great value. Just my opinion. Take it for what it 's worth.
This game is about filling up hotel rooms and packing restaurants. It all about the local economy. A practice is better for the team.
