A&M had the luxury of seeing BG vs Penn State or that may have been a different outcome....IMO. Regardless, Penn State should have been better prepared and not let THAT game come down to the wire.
Thought we came out a little flat today, but got it done and I just wonder if their starting QB didn't get knocked out, would we still have shut them out? Probably, but I didn't care for the trick plays JF & Co tried early in the game. Just play Penn State football and be done be with it! We have lot of talent and I see no reason for trying to be cute at all!
Illinois will be a good game, but I see no NO reason that Penn State can't man handle them and win this by 21 points. I know it was Kent State, but Allar has a lot of weapons to throw to. He looked very comfortable out there today and his timing is all but spot on.....big improvement!
As for Ohio State, I know everyone here knows football better than me, but I think Penn State has a real shot at winning this game. Marshall doesn't have near the talent on offense that we do, and yet they got passed the 50 yard line quite a few times....more than they should have. I don't like that quick scoring offense of Ohio State, but I don't see Penn State giving up 3 or 4 big chunk TD drives like Marshall did today. They will get us on a couple, but I think our offense will score against their defense. And I think we can control TOP to keep us in the game. One of the commentators said Ohio State has one of the best defenses in the country......I just don't see that. I think they will lose to Oregon before they play us.

I agree Mtnittany except Oregon beating Ohio St I’m just not seeing it today. IMO we will keep getting better every week and the way DA is playing that’s bad news for the rest of the big 10. It won't be a night where Andy gets to push the buttons on his XBOX console and he certainly won't have time to "dial it up" at will like he has for the past 3 weeks. Illinois isn't going to lay down. In addition, this can be another 2018 MSU type of event. I'm guessing Vegas rolls out PSU as a 17 point favorite.

For one of the few times ever I actually agree with Kularrow,this gamer vs Illinois is going yo be ugly football with the final score being something like 18-12. I wanna see Singleton get 25 touches for what would probably be the first time ever and if he does I guarantee he’ll break off a few long runs! Whatever happened to all the big talk coming into last season about getting him into space in the short passing game and utilizing his speed and ability to make defenders miss?

See, that is exactly what my concern is! Calling plays like the one that Beau throw that interception and then that stupid play putting 5 guys wide left is NOT what Penn State should be doing. Tyler Warren was open ALL DAY long Saturday. Pound them until they stop him. You have two of the best backs in the country, run them until the cows come home. And our WR's are getting pretty good too. We don't need big chunk plays all of the time, small ones that move the chains are just fine.
Marshall had Ohio State's defense tired with small plays that kept the drives going. Akron's TOP was 34 minutes. Marshall had 36 minutes. If Penn State has 36 minutes TOP with the offense we have, they is NO reason Ohio State should be scoring 30+ points against us. Ohio State's defense is considered one of the best in the country and yet two not so good teams controlled the ball more than Ohio State did....they just didn't have the power to score.
Illinois is up next and Penn State should throttle them! All Franklin needs to do is call normal plays, mix it up and go right after Illinois....they are not that good. They just can't struggle against Illinois and then expect to beat USC and Ohio State! I know I said the same thing about BG, but I think BG is much better team than Illinois. Hey, BG lost to a top 10 and top 25 team by one score....not too shabby.
I don't care that we beat up on a bad Kent State team. I think they started having fun in the second half of the BG game, carried it over to Kent State and they are now playing like a real top 10 team should play. If they destroy Illinois, they are going to be hard to beat the rest this of this year. And I think they can destroy Illinois!!

Any play can be a chunk play and Beau made a bad read, it happens. Deep passes set up the running game and vice versa. Run a balanced offense and if they can't stop you, take all the chunk plays you can get. Gotta be able to throw the ball w/ consistency. cause sooner or later, we're going to need a 2 min drill to win.
I'm ok with the way our new OC has been calling the plays. I think he's done a real good job of keeping the other teams D off balance.
I think you understand what I am trying to say. Just run a balanced offense and stop all of the trick play junk. Once they did vs Kent State, the offense looked spot on. I like the new OC, I don't have an issue with some funky plays once they are up 14 or so and need to nail the coffin shut. I don't recall Ohio State trying this junk last weekend, they just executed and the big plays fell into place on their own. If we are good as they want and think they are, then let he junk plays for THOSE teams trying to pull off major upsets!

As noted above, gives the rest of the schedule something else to have to review and prep for and wonder what else PSU will run off that particular formation.
I want our OC to be the OC we hired. We hired a guy who mixes up formations, has lots of motion, and throws in unusual plays. I don't want to now tell him to be someone else, just to be "normal".
We hired him to be him. So let him do what he does

If these funky plays don’t work against Kent St they dang sure won’t work against the big dawgs. Being cute might work in that garbage big 12 but it will get you beat in the big 10. Yurcich offense was awesome in the big 12. I’m sure our OC knows this so I’m Just saying.
