Every state has high school powerhouses. We have Valdosta, Lagrange, Clark Central and even Buford here in Georgia and there’s 5 or 6 other schools that can compete with these schools. 81 can tell you how powerful these teams are in Georgia. What are the powerhouse schools in Pa. I know Bishop McDevett probably is the best but what are some others that is known? Is Berwick still a powerhouse? They were in the 90’s. Seems today one year you can win the state and next year lose 7 games and then win the state the next year lol
Berwick ain't what it used to be under coach George Curry!
St. Joe’s Prep, Imhotep Charter, Bishop McDevitt, Pine Richland, Archbishop Wood, Mt. Lebanon, and Southern Columbia are PA powerhouses in football currently. St. Joe’s Prep is probably the biggest fish in the pond right now. They produce D1 talent routinely. D’Andre Swift, Olimade Zaccheaus, Marvin Harrison Jr, the Trotter brothers, John Runyan’s kid are all St. Joe’s Prep alums. The thing that bothers me is that a decent portion of their roster is from outside of PA and they are still allowed to compete in the PIAA. But that’s a rant for a different day.
@lionbacker99 I would remove Mcdevitt from that list but keep all the others and add Erie Catehdral Prep and PCC.

@psujoe Fair enough on Cathedral Prep, but Pittsburgh Central Catholic hasn’t played for a state championship since 2016. McDevitt has played in the last 2 championship games. PCC has traditionally been a powerhouse but not as much recently.
Southern, I don't know a thing about high school football here or in PA. I don't really even follow college football. I just love to watch Penn State football and basketball. Oh, and the women's volleyball team.
@lionbacker99 I would remove Mcdevitt from that list but keep all the others and add Erie Catehdral Prep and PCC.

Pa football news should have the latest revision of the HS powerhouses. I remember Berwick back in the days. Do you think SCA could keep the streak going? Wyomissing ?
@forum-titan The link I posted lists all the state championship game participants in each classification since 1988. It’s a pretty easy way to track the trends. Some of the powerhouses from years past have remained and some have changed for various reasons. Take Central Bucks West for example. CBW dominated in the 90’s under legendary coach Mike Pettine. However, in the early 2000’s the Central Bucks School District opened a new HS, Central Bucks South, due to quickly rising enrollment within the district and the boundary lines for CBW were shrunk dramtically, effectively ending CBW dominance.
@psugrad81 my goodness 81. How can you live in Alpharetta Ga and not just stumble across great high school football lol…y’all just gotta trust ole southern because high school football is very competitive here. Collins hill went 15-0 won the state in 2021 and lost 5 games last year. It’s so competitive here. We have probably 10 or 15 teams here I would stack up against any high school teams in the country.
@been-there-ii You sexist pig you. Of course you know the old saying, "It takes one to know one".
