Well, those kids are obligated to several years of service, right? It isn’t exactly free.

Who is talking about money?  I said scholarships, and if you look at my posts I am completely against paying athletes, period.

I WAS an athlete, and had my schooling paid for and received free training and equipment.  Free tutoring if I needed it (I didn't), and various other perks that regular students did not receive.

Add to it that many athletes can now take online classes which negates travelling issues, and I think their whole argument is completely bogus.

My point about the difference between depth in wrestling and depth in football is that wrestlers don't have game-day rotations, or really any rotations at all.  The current situation with Rasheed is rare.  Football players, on the other hand, do not sit on the bench and cheer during the game.  Many of them play during the game.  That's with football gets so many scholarships, the amount of players that actually impact a game is huge.  Well, that and their sport makes a lot of money too.

Never, at any point, was I advocating paying any of them.  IMO a scholarship should be the cost of school, on-campus boarding, food, books, and anything school related.  That's it.  They don't need extra money.  If they live off campus, that's on them.  They pay for it.  Any food outside of their provided food plan, they pay for it.

These athletes don't need money, everything is provided for them.  It was even back when I was in school, so I have a unique way of looking at these arguments I hear athletes today making.  They are all BS.  They just want money, it has nothing to do with them struggling to get by.

My mistake. I thought based off of one of Southern’s posts, you were advocating for paying athletes. It appears that you and I think alike on the topic. My apologies.

No worries!  These boards can get confusing when there are a lot of posts flying around.  I've certainly done the same thing from time to time!
