IMO this game comes down to stopping the auburn run game. Stop the run and we win this game by 14 points. Just get the win though baby and ole southern will be sasified 😁

I think you're right on, Southern.  I just hope Jimmy doesn't get too "cute" with our QB's.  I'd stick with Clifford and only go with Allar if Cliff gets hurt or he is ineffective.  I'm impressed with Allar, but he is still a Frosh and playing at home against Ohio is a heckuva lot different than playing on the road in front of a hostile, SEC crowd.

Penn State has the better all around team, but can they execute will be the question.  Cliff can't be throwing balls over the receiver(s) heads, the receivers can't be dropping passes that hit them the right smack in the hands and the defense can't get caught sleeping to only be beat with trick plays!!!

Would love to see a 14 point win, but the Lions will need to play a solid game with limited mistakes or we could see another Purdue type game. On the other hand, San Jose gave them a pretty good game (in Auburns own house) so who knows. And BTW, San Jose had their hands full with Portland State the weekend before.

Southern - this is a very important game for the Lions.  They are going to have their hands full with Mich and Ohio State, but beating Auburn on the road should be enough to close THAT gap heading into the meat of their schedule. Michigan beat two REALLY bad teams.....0-5 combined. Ohio State beat two teams - one which is not as good as first thunk in ND - which are 1-3 combined.  Penn State has two wins over two teams that are 2-2 combined and I am still hanging MY HAT on that Purdue is wayyyyy much better than what they are perceived to be.....IMO dumb opinion!

I am thinking a similar game as last year, BUT maybe not QUITE as close if the offense is playing well. Penn State has a lot of weapons, but they must execute.  I think the defense is finding their way and they will be just fine!

GO STATE!!

Yeah I don’t believe I gave Purdue enough credit either because they have a good football team. They’re always good at QB and skilled positions and they have a really good coach. I should’ve give Purdue more credit after the game because Purdue really had a shot to win I was just ticked about Singleton not gettin the most carriers after he started out so good. I believe he’s the man now and hopefully we won’t see the RB bye committee going forward. I loved watching the dude run Saturday and I’m looking forward to seeing more games like that. I’ll admit I can overlook some teams sometimes lol

@southern-psu-fan We'll see how good Purdue is, they're playing Sorryexcse Sat, in the dome. Purdue is favored.

ND lost their QB for the season, shoulder injury.

I also have that irritating box and have been unable to get rid of it since I briefly entered and exited the game chat on Saturday

I am hoping Purdue man handles Syracuse!  Their schedule is such that they could easily be sitting at 5-1 ( most likely ranked) when they face Wisconsin which is by far the toughest remaining game on their schedule....who just lost to Washington State that squeaked by Idaho the week before! Good grief!

This is some crazy football going on right now.  You really have to factor in the transfer portal thing and that is really hard to keep on top of. You are seeing a lot of teams filling last year voids with 2 and 3 star recruits (thru the portal) that now have a year or two experience under their belts and they are making an impact right away.

I thought I heard that Marshall had 20 guys this year from the portal??? And quite a few 4 stars from Power 5 conferences.

Go State!!

Auburn is still in the same predicament as last year. 2nd year new coach with uncertainty and not all coaches being on the same level.  Expect more of the same.  Should be a great and tight game from beginning to end. Two mid tier teams duking it out to stay undefeated.  3 different odds were posted Sunday morning. Penn state being a 1 point favorite.

@mtnittanylion I'm hoping they crush Syr. The media here has them playing in a bowl game already. It's like listening to all the political commercials, sick of hearing about it. Tell me how good you are at the end of the season.

We are absolutley the better team, but Jordan-hare stadium is a volitile atmosphere. It will be the toughest place we play all year. Michigan's stadium is a library compared to Auburn, so it will be a big equalizer.

It would make things easier if we can take out the crowd early, or at least have them out of it by the fourth. Because if it's a tight game... our offense will have problems hearing.

@roaminglion I think this is where Clifford still has the advantage over Allar. He has played in loud stadiums with success. Last year in Iowa he was in complete control before the injury. I think that he is the difference maker in loud stadiums.

On that same thought, I really would like to see PSU go up-tempo at least every 3rd drive. In my opinion, their best drives of the season have been right before half or at the end of the game. Clifford just seems to react better when he is in more of a hurry.  The key to success is to make Auburn play catch-up and not let them just control the clock with the run game. I am not going to sit here and pretend Clifford is a Heisman contender but he is not terrible and will be the best QB on the field on Saturday. Penn State may very well have the best 2 or even 3 QBs in the stadium.

If Franklin does his usual and tried to force the run game I think that plays into Auburn's favor and they will be thanking him for it. Set up the run with the pass and use all those weapons to spread the field.

I do worry about the defensive line and linebackers a little. We can't have our safety leading the team in tackles this week. This game needs to be PJ Mustipher's welcome-back party.

Overall I feel very good about this weekend and I guess that makes me a little nervous. HAHA

Hopefully Adisa Isaac becomes the guy everyone has been expecting this year as he could be the difference maker. My only prediction for this game is that if we win Auburn fires their coach by Monday.

@cavensprawl

You are spot on!!  The defense needs to keep this game under 21 points and I think that is doable.  I know I am little high on Purdue's team, but I just don't think we are facing an offense as good as what Purdue was in week 1. However, like ROAM said, this is going to be a loud stadium Saturday and the defense can't be giving up false starts.  They need to put Purdue in passing situations on 3rd down as much as possible....I think our secondary can keep up with them.

I am like you, I feel good about Saturday night, but then I am nervous as well.  Let's face it, Penn State is NOT facing a top 10 team this weekend.  They are facing a decent unranked Power 5 Team that has some fairly good talent, but not as many as Penn State has.  Penn State should be able to post 30 points, keeping Auburn under 21 is going to be the key for me.

Go State!!!

@mtnittanylion  Slick Nick Saban is 5-4 playing at Auburn so that tells you how hard it is to get a win at Auburn. Auburn  had Alabama beat last year late in the game and they pretty much give the game away. Very tough place to play. As for the refs, playing at Auburn is worse than playing at Michigan 😂

Our Oline needs to protect Cliff and keep him healthy.  I'm really impressed by Allar, but I wouldn't want to put the game on his shoulders in this environment.  If Clifford doesn't get hurt and plays within his ability, I feel confidant we'll win.  I also have a lot of faith in Diaz and our defense.

@southern-psu-fan It can't be any worse than the screw job the refs gave PSU last year. Punting on the third down ring a bell? haha

So this year it will be BIG ten refs and John O'Neill is retired now I think so there is hope for a better officiated game than last year.

If O'Neill is gone, that's a big plus for the integrity of the game.

My Auburn friends are not impressed and the team is a bit out of order.  That being said I'm a bit afraid of the matchup between their run game and our defense.   And I don't expect Auburn is an easy place to win.  I consider this game similar to Purdue.  We could lose a close one but I see a win by 10 or less.

@underlion  I said it the other day and I’ll say it again, Nick Saban is 5-4 playing at Auburn and auburn give them the game last year. The game last year was similar to the way we lost to Indiana in 2020. It’s a very tough place to play. I still believe we get the win though I just gotta feeling we come out and put a butt kicking on ‘em.
