Coach Franklin,
Everyone wanted you to succeed, and you have done some good things for student-athletes, the university, and the program. You have been well compensated for your activities. However, it is time for you to leave.
Your downfall began when you unwisely accepted an unnecessary and excessive contract extension, which required nothing of you and placed the university in jeopardy. As a result, you have been unable to create a culture of selflessness and authority as a selfless leader. This has resulted in your inability to build cohesive teams that are able to achieve excellence. Although many of your statements have been superb, your actions and the results of your actions are wanting. Therefore, it is best for all concerned that you vacate your position. And since the results that have been realized since your acceptance of the unnecessary and excessive contract extension have been insufficient, it can be assumed that you have not fulfilled your contractual obligation and should be entitled to no further financial compensation.
Have a nice day. We appreciate you "taking responsibility".
Everyone including you would have accepted that contract. Stop this nonsense that you or anyone else wouldn't have.
Yeah sure, I am certain you'd turn down 80 million from your boss. What a crockThat's where you are wrong buddy
We all knew he was a good salesman and talker. We hoped he would develop into a coach or administrator but alas. Rather tired of the 10 lines he uses, rinse and repeat. I am tired of the early week press conference where he wastes half the time talking about the opposing players. Strategy to run out the clock on the press conference.
It all falls back on the previous AD who decided to screw the football program on her way out. She knew what she was doing when signing the contract for a coach that many thought was undeserving.
You can go back and look, none of us wanted him to get a new contract because he’d done nothing to deserve it and I’m probably the biggest James Franklin fan on here but his time should be up I’m tired of the BS on the sidelines.
He leveraged well if I remember but I had no problem with the contract...just the length.
That contract had to be approved by the BOT; somebody was sleeping at the wheel!
Maybe the theory was 'WE ARE PENN STATE' and we don't turn over coaches but remember them giving Joe year to year deals at the end.
5 years would have been plenty. He has not earned his pay IMO. He has not embarrassed the University by having too many problem children but the football results have been lackluster for the PSU investment. No outsider tells me anymore we are lucky to have a top coach.
The disconnect was that he had upset teams, performed over his head at Vandy. He has not at PSU. Hope does not 'spring eternal'.
She was an unmitigated disaster as the A.D. My guess is there is some sort of settlement and Franklin takes another job at a high profile program...That will take the shackles off the program and free up the money to go buy out a guy like Cignetti...The question isn't whether or not Franklin is gone it is a matter of how soon does he get shown the door and the big question to be answered is who replaces him...That is the exciting part...
To get Cignetti you will have to outbid Mark Cuban. Good luck with that. She was an unmitigated disaster as the A.D. There comes a point where the money isn't even the factor anymore...The bottom line is Penn State has the donors to outbid even Mark Cuban...He is one guy and Penn State has a lot of Mark Cubans in the fold...This is going to come down to whether or not Cignetti wants to be the Penn State head coach...150 million from Cuban or Pegula and the Penn State donors is the same...The money is going to be there...It's a matter of whether becoming the head football coach at a program like Penn State is something that appeals to Cignetti or not...It's a long shot to land Cignetti because they are going to be in the playoffs and to wait til the middle of January without knowing is not feasible...I would sure as hell reach out to his people and take his temperature and act accordingly...He would be my first choice...If that isn't a possibility then you move on with your search...I am 100% certain that an overture to Cignetti will be happening in the near future if he hasn't already been contacted already...
