This isn't a time for a first time head coach...Penn State needs a coach with an established track record of excellence...They need someone to bring in the alumni money along with enthusiasm...They got the money and could afford to buy Cignetti and that is what I would do...If for some reason Cignetti would decline I would go after the guy from Geogia Tech...I would pass on Rhule, Golden or Manny Diaz...I also read a report that ole cousin Urban was sniffing around...I would pass on that pervert too and circle of trust nonsense...The other name that I saw floated around in a serious way was John Gruden...He fascinates me but my concern is that NFL coaches don't make good college coaches but if there is a guy who could do it Gruden can...I have no doubt he would bring enthusiasm and would attract the big money people as well...

Gruden would draw recruits, but his track record is a 51% winning record.

He may be good in todays college game with experience handling player movement e.g. transfer portal and payment.

Would be interesting to see what his coaching staff would look like.

Like any team, he'd have to get the players that fit his scheme or being able to adjust and build the scheme around the players he has, I don't know.

Being a HC before is completely irrelevant, Kirby Smart seems to be doing just fine. Dan Lanning is doing ok I’m told. Mack Brown had all resources in the world at Texas A&M and that didn’t go to plan, Brian Kelly same thing at LSU. If you want Cignetti prepare to import 40% of IUs roster. I doubt hed take the job, comparing IU to PSU is apples and oranges. Cig is no doubt the better HC over JF but he’s going to want to bring in his own OC and DC. He just beat Oregon in their house, why leave? He can just keeping getting the Mendozas of the world why we put all our chips in system QBs who patiently wait their turn. The college football world is passing Penn State by, a serious shake up needs to happen this offseason and it takes new blood and fresh thinking plus a ton of resources to throw at it. There’s a reason Ben Johnson, Liam Cohen  and Kevin O’Connell are all Head Coaches now in the league, they’re young, fresh, QB oriented offensive minds. Never being a Head Coach isn’t indicative of success, there’s probably more data that says they’re more likely to fail honestly. Ryan Day wasn’t a HC. Will Stein checks all the boxes. I love Jon Gruden but I don’t know how he would do in the recruiting aspect but the guy is a football genius.

Just say no to Manny, Gruden, Golden and Ruhle. We need young, energetic and innovative not old stiffs stuck in the mud.

I will give you 2 reasons why Cignetti would leave Indiana...#1 to compare the Indiana football program to the Penn State football program as apples to oranges is lunacy...The 2nd reason is M.O.N.E.Y...Penn State is one of the top 10 college football jobs in the country...I have no doubt that if Penn State wants to they can get Cignetti...I will agree with you that the program needs a major shakeup...For 2 reasons...To inject some enthusiasm into what has become a stale program and also to ignite the money people to contribute...I would hone in on Cignetti as my first choice...The guy from Georgia Tech or Gruden would be my next choices...I ain't gonna lie...The more I think about Gruden the more intrigued I get...I think he would be a good fit...He would definitely bring some juice to the program and I believe he would bring in the revenue as well...

And? What is your damn point? That a coach who loses to Tulane is what we need because he didn't lose to Northwestern?

Didn't Arizona State lose to Mississippi State and just get clobbered by Utah? He's an alum of ASU anyway, so I doubt he leaves regardless.

Lets not sell this coaching opportunity short...Penn State is a top 5 to top 10 coaching destination in all of college football...Establish your top 3 targets and go in order to get them...It shouldn't go past your 2nd choice but make sure you have 3 just in case...I also don't want Rhule, Golden or Manny...I would be lining em up in this order...1 is Cignetti, 2 would be the guy from Georgia Tech and 3 would be of all people John Gruden...Gruden really intrigues me...Something tells me he would be a great fit...I know...I am out of my mind...

Based on what is it a top 5 to top 10 destination?

We are barely top 5 in the Big 10

Just curious

I don’t get the John Gruden love. He was an average coach from what I remember.
