This is a good team, they don't play anybody better than Michigan the next 3 games and they have WAY more talent than Sparty, Minny and Indiana!!!! We saw what happened to Wisconsin and Georgia, so we know anything is possible! But I questioned THOSE two teams before and I still do now.  We will have a better idea about both, Ohio State and Wisconin after next weekend. If Wisconsin knocks off Ohio State, then the Sky is limit for Franklin and he dang well better figure out this RB rotation thing sooner than later.  If Ohio State beats Wisonsin, look out! I just can't see Penn State winning on the road against the Buckeye's with the way Franklin and company are running this offense right now! Even the defense is a little concerning to me.  They have not faced one Offense half as good as Ohio State at all this season.  BUT THEN AGAIN, who the heck has Ohio State faced?

I am afraid we are getting our hopes a little to high right now!  Even though the Penn State defense is doing well, I think there is a big difference between the top 5 teams and the next 20 ranked teams when it comes to offenses.  Penn State is ranked 6th, but this offense is NOT a top 6 team.  Can they be?  Yeah, I think there is plenty of talent there, but unless Franklin and Co make some changes to their play calling and RB rotation, they are going to get waxed when the face any of these top 5 teams.  Penn States defense is doing well, they have some more things to iron out and get better at, but they can play against these top 5 team offenses AS LONG AS they are not on the field for 38m minutes per game!!!!

21-0 in the second quarter, WHITE OUT, home field advantage, 110,000 fans and the game comes down to one last do or die play!!! What the heck was Franklin and Co doing????????? Michigan spots Franklin 21 points to start and with seamlingly one of the best defenses in college football,  he nearly blows another one!!!!!

GO STATE!!!

Michigan can always come back and win a football game especially when they have better depth. I believe our starters can play with anybody but our depth is still a year or 2 away. We have Parsons but Ohio st and Alabama have 4 parsons. There’s a reason we let the big dawgs come back on us and it’s because our starters get tired and there’s a drop off when they come off the field. James Franklin is the reason we’re 7-0 ranked 6th. The man knows what he’s doing so we need to be patient and let him do it. We’re undefeated baby lol

Southern!! Now Ohio State and Michigan have some players on their team but they do not have 4 Parsons. Nobody has 4 Micah Parsons in their team!  They may have 1 or two Parson like players but so do we.

yea, stars matter. No doubt about that but it’s about coaching up those players too and Penn State, especially  on defense, has done a really good job at that.

In wasn't about depth Saturday night, it was about the Defense being on the field for 38 minutes because Franklin couldn't put 3 plays together to get a few first downs against a Michigan team that ISN'T very good this year!!  For crying out loud!!!  It took trikery at the end to get a first down to close the game.  GREAT CALL!!!!  But it didn't have to come down to that!!!

Penn State is 7-0 BECAUSE they have played mediocre teams AT BEST!  I give Franklin credit for bringing us very good Talent, but he is NO Einstein and unless he get's off his high horse and wakes up, the beatings are about to begin! He is making mistakes, his play calling is horrible when he has a lead he can't not sustain them against top tier teams!

Franklin has depth!!! Plenty of depth to not do what he did against Michigan!! I have seen enough now, I am not a football coach, but I have seen enough to see that Franklin is light years away from winning any National titles at Penn State.

7-0 ranked 6th for crying out loud lol. 5 teams that are ranked ahead of us. Y’all been saying this crap all year brother first it was Maryland then it was we better watch out for Iowa then it was we’ll get beat by Michigan if we don’t settle on a RB lol. Who’s going to beat us? Michigan State? A weak Minnesota team? Rutgers? Or maybe y’all will try and talk up Indiana again lol. Ohio st is the only team that has a chance of beating us we’ll give the rest of ‘em an azz kicking. What else does James Franklin have to do for y’all to settle down and let this man do what he does and that’s win football games? We ain’t going to play perfect games every week and beat teams 58-0 it ain’t going to happen it we can win the games and some of ‘em will be close which is what has happened.

I've read and reread all the comments in this thread and appreciate all the valid points made by everyone.  I really believe it boils down to coaching issues, i.e. making timely decisions (stop the RB rotation already),  effective game management (calling strategic TO's), and  creative play calling (don't turn turtle so early in the game) are my pet peeves.  I'm not saying Franklin isn't a good coach, but IMHO he needs to improve in these areas to help the team realize their full potential.

I may have exaggerated a little on the parsons part but my point is it will take a few mote years to be stacked like Ohio st and a few other teams but it’s coming.

There were a few 3rd downs that were there for the taking... A few missed passes to the TE.

Play call is only one part of an outcome the other is execution of the play.  Take the would be TD pass to Dotson, if they execute its another TD.

So the #17 team on the road and the #16 team at home are "mediocre teams AT BEST" seriously.

To add on... Yeah, how do we know Michigan isn't very good this year? Just because they got beat pretty good by Wisky EARLY IN THE YEAR doesn't mean they are a bad team. Ohio State won the Big Ten last year, and they got beat worse than Michigan did BY PURDUE! We were destroyed by Michigan in 2016 and won the conference!!! Just saying, sometimes bad games happen and I think it would be more competitive if Wisky played Michigan again. Remember, Wisky just lost to Illinois... a team Michigan beat by 17.

I think we'll know more about Michigan this weekend, if they beat ND at home then I think we can say they must be a pretty good team. The Wolverines could realistically end the year 9-3 if they beat ND, that's probably around a #15 type season.

I also think Iowa is decent, their defense is very good but the offense lacks explosion. Only two losses were close games to us and Michigan. Again... not bad. They also have a realistic chance at a 9-3 season if they split with Wisky and Minnesota. At worst I'd say they are 8-4 and ranked around #25.

I believe Michigan is a very solid team, a lot of talent and athleticism.  WR are very good and BIG.

They lack an explosive RB that they always had, OL and DL are solid.  Wisconsin was a tough draw out of the gate.  I'm not surprised by the score and that they pushed us to the limit, matter of fact I like that they did... It will help build this team mentally for other games down the road.

It was the perfect storm when Michigan got beat by Wisconsin. Michigan has a new OC and offense and Wisconsin got’em early in the year that just spells disaster for Michigan on the road in a hostile environment, it happens.

Lots of good comments here for and against our situation. I think Bob hit the nail on the head with the playing turtle too early comment. Either we took our foot off the gas or had no response for adjustments made by Harbaugh. There were a few closely missed connections and a questionable call on the second half kick that changed momentum a bit, but to be up 21-0 early and hold on to a TD lead late is cause for concern. But, a win is a win and anything can happen on game day; just ask Wisky...

If that was say Indiana then I would say there would be a need for concern but Michigan is stacked with talented players that made plays on both sides of the ball...  It happens.

If that was Indiana, there would be cause for panic! But I get your point and am happy with the win. It just sours that win a little knowing we let them back in the game.

We need to convert more than just a few third downs to allow our boys on D to rest some more. I don’t know what the keys are to making that happen, but there were too many three and outs in the second half.

We are 2 of 3 in the 3 game stretch that scared us and Minny is better than we expected.  I still have us at 1.5 losses regular season.  OSU at 0.5.  Not many teams play 4 games in a row as solid as Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, and Minnesota.  One might propose that Minnesota will be most focused on Wisconsin and they are due a bad game.  I guess I expect the odds are better than 50/50 that we get to Columbus undefeated but I can't agree with 'No Reason'.

MSU is a poor offense and an above average defense this year. We really need to put them away early, just like we lit up Michigan in the early goings this past Saturday. MSU's offense is not good at all, even worse than Michigan's.

This is a team we let hang around two years in a row, and it bit us both times. Time to put them away.

First of for the love of everything that is holy please and I mean PLEASE stop with the Penn State doesn't have as much talent as these other top teams, as much depth etc etc. etc...Just please stop it...If Clemson played in the B1G eastern division they would lose 3 games and maybe 4 depending on who and where they had to play their western division opponents...Having watched these teams a few times now it is obvious to me that Ohio State is the most complete team right now...Bama can hang with them on offense but Ohio State has the superior defense...Wisky got caught peaking ahead to the Ohio State game this weekend and got picked off...Penn State needs to just play one game at a time and focus on that one game...Penn State has as much depth, talent, speed, athleticism and physical ability as any team in the country....

When Michigan beats Notre Dame and I think they will...What does that do to the whole Georgia narrative? I mean Michigan is a 2 loss B1G team...Sort of takes the whole shine off of the Georgia win right? The stacking is already beginning gentlemen...Remember what I said...5 SEC teams in the top 10 so they are priming the pump for 2 SEC teams in the playoff...

You know I love ya FD but have you already forgot about that 31-0? Lol. Check Ohio States record against the SEC regardless of what team it is. James Franklin has been great at recruiting but we’re still chasing Clemson, Alabama, Ohio st, Georgia and probably LSU. We’re a year or 2 from  having the depth these teams do. I still believe Michigan is a little deeper than we are but not much deeper. Don’t mean we can’t beat these teams because with James Franklin on the sidelines you always have a chance to win regardless of the talent difference he’s just that good and his record backs up what I say.
