Does anyone else see similarities between our 1986 team and Indiana? To me it seems like both teams personify "team", where the sum of the parts far outweigh the talent.

Both teams have NFL talent, some REALLY good talent, but most think of both these squads as well coached, fundamentally sound, blue collar workmen guys.

Ironnically both will have faced Miami in the NC.

I see what you are saying Roam, but I must point out the difference between Shaffer and Mendoza is exponentially wide!  I remember them bragging how Shaffer had never lost a game going into the Bowl Game against Oklahoma in '85 - he was 55-0 as a Starter.  I immediately made a T shirt after that loss that read 55-1 in Large writing.  To me, Shaffer was a successful game manager, Mendoza is a game changer!

True, but we also had guys like Conlan on defense which Indiana has no one like either.
