A very good recruiter and coach, but was caught up in the sanctions at Oklahoma back in 09-10. Barring any scandals, he will have Pitt's basketball team playing much, much better very soon.
Any of those kids considering transfers might be rethinking it.
That's good to hear, the comments in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have been in meltdown mode over the past few weeks. The article in the PG says that two of the players that had asked for their release have said they were planning to stay. So, this may stem the tide.
Good for Pitt, not good for us. I'd rather they not gotten a good coach, LOL
I understand that sentiment. I have family members on both sides of the divide, holidays and family gatherings were a time for bragging/discussing. Twenty to thirty years ago was different. I am now separated from most of the relatives by distance and don't see them as often. We've moved on to the B1G, they're now in the ACC. It was fun while it lasted, but I don't hold the same vitriol.
Even if there's no rivalry, it hurts our recruiting. We already have to contend with the Philly schools, so it would have been nice to get a reprieve regarding the other big BBall program in the state.
That said, I wish there was more of a rivalry... Other school do it in the ACC, and they are VERY hotly contested. GT plays Georgia, Clemson plays Auburn, Florida plays FSU, etc.
I don't know much about our basketball recruiting. I'm not sure how much we've gone head to head against Pitt for recruits. I'm also not sure who is to blame for us not playing them in basketball. We play Pitt in other sports. You'd think scheduling a home and home basketball series against Pitt and West Virginia alternating which team we play at home each year could be worked out. Is it that PS coaches don't want to play them, the other way around, or mutual?
I believe they played this past Nov, PSU won 85 -54.
Oh no, we do play them in BBall usually. I switched to talking more about Football though. LOL
Most of the recent basketball games have been part of the B1G-ACC challenge or some other contrivance, not alternating yearly home games. Wasn't this year's game part of some neutral site tournament?
Football isn't likely to happen much due to conference obligations. We are committed to nine conference games per year. That only allows for one home and home series per year, the other two games have to be home games to pay the bills. Pitt has Notre Dame obligations gumming things up.
