@roaminglion And doctors all have their own opinions, good, bad, misdirected or just plain uninformed because they haven't kept current.

@roaminglion  I wouldn’t know what scientist to listen too roam or even look to be honest but I trust my doctor and I believe he’s always had my best interest for the last 30 years. I’m probably the only person left that would do what Dr Fauci says if another pandemic happened because I really believe he’s always meant well but he got dragged into politics and we both know that has a bad ending but I’d still do what that man says because I believe odds would be on my side listening to the professionals that’s just the way I am 😂

I didn't mean one scientist... just more scientific consensus. Sorry if I made it seem like I was saying go find some guy to trust.

That said don't blindly trust either... no one is above scrutiny if you have questions...

My wife is a doctor and she would definitely agree with you!

Just to add to the discussion a bit... I think a big contributor to the current distrust, or at least increased scepticism, is rigor in general has declined in our society. Making it through college was once a hard thing to do, getting a masters and PhD were extremely hard.

Now? I feel like many schools have eroded that rigor to the point where people getting PhDs aren't experts... they just found a program that pushed them through based on dubious dissertations after online "classes". It's why I chose an established school to gain my PhD... not East Bumblef*ck Maine Southwest Online College.

These schools produce unserious researchers who cut corners and pay to publish in less than legitamate journals. The media then refrences the journals, as do social influencers, and make them sound like studies that are taken seriously. When someone from the actual scientific community says those are crap, you get the "they are hiding something" or "they are scared of the truth" arguments. This is misinformation that, to the casual citizen, looks legitamate because it's in a "scientific" journal.

It's a general dumbing down of academic standards that has... IMO... lead to this. The academic community (schools, accreditation entities, etc.) have let the inmates (students) run the asylum so to speak. Admins lowering standards to pass more people rather than holding them accountable has led to a general lack of care about rigor. I feel like people (generally speaking)  today are more interested in getting something done than getting it done RIGHT.

@roaminglion I agree Roam! I was born to be a truck driver and I love it because I’m not in one place standing in the same room all the time I’m always on the run and I make a good living and have fun doing it. Everybody can’t be NFL players, doctors and lawyers but the “that’s not fair crowd” don’t want to except the facts. College also isn’t for everyone.IMO find the gift the Good LORD has blessed you with and be good at it and be happy.

Well said. "College isn't for everyone" should be taken as good advixe, not a put down or offense. I am not sure if my kids will go to college to be honest... they are both bright kids, but that just might not be the best path for them to take.

I want them to be successful, and that means they have to stuggle with things and learn to overcome them. You don't grow by having everything given to you, or by sueing everyone who wants to hold you to high standards.

If my kids become a plumber and truck driver, I'd be just as proud of them as if they became a scientist, pilot, pro athlete, etc. As long as they are doing their best and applying themselves.

Out of high school I worked in just about every sweat shop known to man. From freezing cold all the way to standing 12 hours next to 230 degree ovens. Night shift, 2nd shift, 1st shift, 12 hour days. In high school I worked part time in construction during the summers. Busting concrete, digging footers, making concrete forms, moving wheelbarrow. Some had good life lessons and I had some good mentors that taught me many life values. About 4 years after graduation I've decided to start taking college classes and learning different trades until finally something caught my interest. I do agree college isn't for everyone but if I have not pursued it I would probably be stuck in some warehouse pushing boxes around.  I went through it all as many others have also. I'm happy and content with what I do and generally money, status doesn't mean much.

@southern-psu-fan You need to learn shoveling a bit better, if you got that kind of a lesson.
