Man that’s a tough one. Shane Conlin made the #31 but IMO Puz was better. Puz was just a rugged LB’r

Man, both have cool names, lol,  but Shane was just nasty.

On the biggest stage ever for Penn State, Shane dominated. Tesdaverde never recovered from that game.

Shane Conlan delivered when it counted  against the "canes, but  I can't say who was the  better LB'er.  In my opinion, Shane was the last of the "old school" mean & nasty LB'ers (the Jack Ham types) & Posluszny epitomized the "new school" finesse type LB'er with Sean Lee following in his footsteps.  I think all three  (Shane, Paul & Sean) are among the greatest LB'ers to wear the Blue & White.  Jack Ham was arguably the all-time greatest!

If you count the NFL years, it's not even close. Conlan made 1st team All-Pro 3 times and went to multiple pro bowls while Puz made only 1 pro bowl and never sniffed an All-Pro team.

Both were great, but Conlan was much more highly regarded in the NFL.

Maybe I’m wrong then because that’s what I go by what did you do at the NFL level because only the best make it to the NFL. Puz did have a long NFL career especially for a LB’r. You do your homework Roam and your stats don’t lie. I don’t keep up with the NFL religiously like some of y’all do I’m a college guy.

Roam, I'm like Southern in that I don't follow the NFL much, but if I remember correctly, didn't Conlan play the majority of his career with the Buffalo Bills?  That would make his NFL accomplishments that you cited more impressive since the Bills were not the greatest team going and his supporting cast on defense was not all that talented.

The Bills went to three of their four straight Super Bowls while Conlan was there (90-92). They lost all of them, but they were good enough to go to the Super Bowl for four consecutive years. Conlan  finished up his career with the Rams.

Thanks for the info!  So much for my theory, LOL.  I said I didn't follow the NFL and it showed.  Still, Conlan was one heckofa LB!

Of course, as I said that's if you go by the NFL. All different ways to look at things.

If you look at the NFL, then Tim Tebow wouldn't ever come up in a discussion of great QBs. However, just focus on college and he's one of the top QBs.

Different games, different skillsets. Some do well in one and not the other. Some do really well in both... It all depends.

The good news is that both players helped penn st win a lot of football games winning a NC and big 10 championship with our only BCS bowl win in the orange bowl  unless I’m missing one. Hey Roam I’ve got to confess something since I hit the Oregon folks about throwing electric mopeds or scooters in the rivers my Atlanta brothers or sisters are doing the same thing. They’ve pulled about 200 out of the Chatahoochi river this past week. That should be a $10,000 fine if you get caught. I’m not a nutbag but I care about the environment.

Tebow was more like a tailback who threw the ball every once in a while. I kept telling the Gator Nation down here when he was still at UF that he would never make it as a QB in the NFL!!
