@southern-psu-fan I said they are on our level for 2025, last years class and the year before that has nothing to do with it.
@psujoe Are the 4* recruits that UCF gets on the same level of 4* recruits that Penn St get? Dont all teams have a down year in recruiting if the state doesn’t have a good crop of players? Pennsylvania is loaded with good football players but I’ve heard some years are better than others? Just asking because I know you know your stuff when it’s comes to recruiting.
When you have your next door neighbor and conference opponent spending 20 million in NIL, all of this is kind of pointless. Oregon is going to continue to spend the type of money to win IE landing Dillon Gabriel. Replacing your OC just isn’t enough in the age of Transfer Portal/NIL to win a NC. Michigan very well could have been the last traditional college program compromised of 4 year letterman to win a NC we will ever see.
@kularrow I agree. I asked a couple of months ago if the fans should chip in money and help get the good football players but I believe it got shot down. If Ohio St is getting more NIL money the fans might have to chip in if we want to win. Penn St has a lot of fans and if everybody chips in that could be a whole lot of money to help out. I hate the way this is headed. I’m good for a couple hundred a year if that’s what it takes.
Here is my take on all of this...#1 College football is a business now and it is all out in the open...This is professional football without the salary cap...I said the minute this came out that Oregon with the Nike money was going to be a perennial powerhouse and they are...Penn State with it's massive alumni association should be able to compete with the dollars to be a perennial powerhouse as well...I believe they will because the rewards and ROI will be worth it...Upgrading the stadium is a start but they also must upgrade their training facilities as well...I believe they must not only make the CFP this year but they must make a run and that will increase interest and of course greatly help their recruiting...It really boils down to assessing talent and being able to pay the price to bring them in...I don't think that is their problem...The defense and special teams are national title level but the offense is mid at best...They have got to figure out a way from the coaching staff to put these kids in a position to succeed...Get Singleton in space and find a WR to take the top off the defense to give these kids room to run...Allar must throw the ball done field more this year and hopefully a WR or dare I say 2 emerge this year...To me that is the question...Can this new OC create space through formations and motion to create mismatches for his playmakers...Time will tell...If they can't do this it is going to be another 2 loss season and the same ole same ole...In today's game holding a team to 28 points should be enough to get you a win...You gotta score to win in todays game and the truth is it hasn't happened for this team in some time...This team will go as far as the offense takes em...That's my take...They have playmakers and this coaching staff needs to put these kids in positions to succeed..You do that by creating mismatches through formations and motion...I am hopeful but I gotta see it this year...They are as good as anybody especially defensively...To me it's on the coaching staff and specifically this new OC...
Oregon ain’t done anything except lose to Washington the last 2 years and didn’t win the PAC 12. I agree they’ll have the money but some of y’all are seeing results on the field that I’m not seeing and the big 10 will be harder to win. I keep hearing elite players and coaching staff and what have they done..nothing. I do remember Georgia beating the dawg shit out of ‘em an elite football team. We all watched what Michigan did to Washington also.
James Franklin will never win a national championship or another conference championship with or without NIL money!
I’m sick of hearing him complain that fans aren’t contributing enough when we are #7 in the country for NIL donations meanwhile we have one of the highest paid coaches in the country and our team continues to be non competitive in big games, has a dismal record vs top 10, top 15 and top 20 teams plus an unimpressive bowl showing. All the NIL money in the country couldn’t buy a national championship for a coach who consistently blows 1 or 2 games a year with questionable coaching decisions.
The problem isn’t lack of NIL, the problem is the coach.
Oregon ain’t done anything except lose to Washington the last 2 years and didn’t win the PAC 12.
Other than in the last 15 years winning the PAC 12 six times and going to two National Championship games? Yes, other than that... "nothing"
Exactly how many Big Ten titles do we have in that time span Southern? How many playoff appearances? What conference's champion did we lose to the only year we won the Big Ten in the last 15 years? Oh yeah, that's right... the Pac 12's
If that's your metric... then what exactly have we done in the past 7 or so years other than lose to Ohio State & Michigan?
@roaminglion Beat Washington and Utah is one thing we’ve done and dominated both teams. PAC 12 stunk and it was USC we lost to not Washington… I guess you forgot that ass kicking we put on Washington and Oregon while they were the PAC 12 champs. I believe we put an ass kicking on the PAC 12 champs Utah 2 years ago…that’s the facts.
Georgia 49 Oregon 3 this is what happens when Oregon plays elite teams. 😂
I think Bubble Boy needs to look in a mirror once in a while.
We gotta do better against Ohio St and Michigan I know that.
We play USC, UCLA and Washington this year so we’ll see how it goes. We could’ve beat all 3 of these teams last year including Oregon imo.

What do those teams have to do with your argument? Is this more of your bizzarro reasoning?

This is what happens when PSU plays elite teams under James Franklin
- Record vs. ranked teams: 12-26
- Record vs. top-10 teams: 3-17
@psujoe we play them this year Remoh we’ll see how we stack up against the new PAC teams. We’ve definitely struggled against Ohio St and Michigan for sure no argument about that gotta do better.
No one on this forum has said USC,UCLA or Wash will be a conference power or contender so I still don’t understand your bizarre Reasoning. For once maybe you could stay consistent and tell us how bad USC is going to kick our ass in 2024 since they did it to us back in 2017.@psujoe we play them this year Remoh we’ll see how we stack up against the new PAC teams. We’ve definitely struggled against Ohio St and Michigan for sure no argument about that gotta do better.
This is the type of season where we finally beat Ohio State just to lose to Minnesota.
@psujoe I believe we beat USC this year. We’ve lost pretty much our whole defense and replaced our OC and DC so it’s not like we’ll have a seasoned team. No excuse’s we’ll see what happens this year on the field. I’m with Kularrow, we beat Ohio St and win the big 10.

USC kicked our ass the last 3 times we played them so using typical southerpsufan’s reasoning that means they’ll kick our ass in 2024.
@psujoe I agree James Franklin is holding the program back, say we go 8-4 and they miss the playoffs. Where do they go from here? I feel stuck with Franklin, he has a crazy big buyout and with a new stadium coming, is that financially reasonable? If they do move on, who replaces him? A NFL coach? Are we in Matt Ruhl territory like Nebraska. A lot of questions if they move on, I don’t see it.
Lmao, are you reaching back to 1994 for a win over Oregon? FFS.@roaminglion Beat Washington and Utah is one thing we’ve done and dominated both teams. Also, Washington wasnt even in the Pac 12 Championship game in 2017... let alone won their conference. My lord man. Your two great examples are:
Beating Washington by 7 points in 2017, a Husky team that didn't win their division let alone their conference... and Oregon from 30 years ago????
What exactly does that prove?
Also, I dont care about Utah 2 years ago in the era of opt-outs. Utah had a bunch of players out just like we did against Ole Miss. Who cares.
Washington's top-ranked run defense allowed as many yards on one play as it had averaged all season, then Penn State added 100 more as the Nittany Lions ended the Huskies' season with a Fiesta Bowl loss.
you went back 15 years so I went back to when we beat Oregon and Washington. Washington was ranked 12th so don’t act like it was t a big win. They got that ass spanked..period. James Franklin took Barkley out every time we went up 14 points it was total domination by Penn St. seems like you and Homer only think games count if we lose, the big games we win don’t mean anything. FYI when you win the Rose Bowl and fiesta Bowl it’s a huge win.
seems like you and Homer only think games count if we lose
Yet we lose bad to Ole Miss and you barely mention it. We lose to USC and still the PAC 12 sucks in your eyes. And we beat Washington by 7 points and you describe it as an "ass kicking"
No, it's not us who seems to think games only count when we lose... it's you who only cares about games we win.
Oregon loses to Washington 2 years in a row, and all of a sudden it's all "what have they done lately" like they haven't been to 2 NC games this century. Yet we beat them 30 years ago and you pound your chest over it.
@southern-psu-fan No, you’re the guy that brings up other teams losses from years ago and tries to tell us how it relates to today which makes absolutely no sense at all. When we bring up PSU losses from years ago we’re trying to show what you do on a continual basis.
