What makes the other three a better place than Happy Valley in today’s world?
I ain’t falling for that that 61 Lol
Seriously guys, with the internet and all, even the weather thing can be thrown out; what makes the other places a better place for coaches.
@psu61. True2brown said a few years ago demographics were changing in the NE and I was hurting the NE teams in recruiting and Penn State is in the NE. Ohio St, USC, LSU, Texas, Alabama and Georgia have a big advantage in recruiting. I thought that was what True2 was saying anyway I could have misunderstood him?
I get that but losing State recruits and now DMVaNj, what gives?

The only reason it changed was because your hero James Franklin changed his recruiting philosophies and decided to recruit nationally instead of concentrating on areas that Penn State has traditionally dominated (PA,NJ,DMV) other programs saw an opportunity to take advantage of and they are doing it. This is just another example of why your man has blown it and the program is in decline. Whoever takes over when JF is gone will have a total rebuild
I think if and when JF leaves if PSU can get the right HC and ACs, the recruiting will pick right back up especially if the playoff would go to 8 teams as mentioned in the Jones article. The bottom line though is PSU has to get in a HC with the proven ability to win, develop and get players in at the next level; getting that HC may very well be the problem. No one can tell me if PSU pulled in Urban or similar that recruiting wouldn't explode upward. And as much as I'm in to college ball should be college ball as of old, the bottom line is the game and business model has changed, IMO its sad but its gonna be what its meant to be.

I'm really not sure what you are talking about, because where rankings are concerned Franklin has pulled in many of the highest rated classes PSU has ever had.
Rankings are one thing, development is another. In terms of JF, I don’t think I insinuated that he has been a poor recruiter. In fact as u mentioned the recruiting classes have been up there. However going forward one has to start putting the pieces of the puzzle together to see where things are headed. This doesn’t mean one bad year is the whole story but looking backwards what do you see in terms of consistency that most likely sets the stage for going forwards? College football is a business, the big time programs are like any other mega Corp and Successful businesses evolve and have contingency plans. Im not referring to knee jerk reactions when shit goes awry but solid leadership that is capitalizing on the present while gearing up for the future. JMO.
@psu61. I want to see Levis start Saturday and finish out the season to see if this gives the team a spark like I think it did Saturday against Nebraska. Bad QB play makes the whole dang team look bad because if it’s 3 and out or a turnover it’s kills the defense and everything else you’re trying to do. If the offense picks up and the defense still looks as bad as they have I definitely see a development problem with the players on defense because we have some high ranking defensive players that don’t look all that good right now but when you don’t take care of the ball the defense wears out and quick. Let’s see how we play Saturday against a solid Iowa team and we should get a better feel where the team is. I believe we’ve found something.
I took a look at Levi’s recruiting tapes and he looked like a pretty good gamer back then with upside potential. Hopefully he can run and pass accurately with this opportunity.
i agree 61 I looked back at who recruited him and David Cutcliff wanted this kid and this dude has an eye for good QB’s. He was a pro style QB and from all the offers from colleges this kid got he must be very smart. I believe this kid is exactly what the new OC wants in a QB. I see good things happening going forward especially after watching this kid come off the bench I just wish the OC would’ve trusted him more throwing the ball inside the 10 and that’s something I didn’t like because the kid was throwing the ball good in the Nebraska game. Needed play calls with gettin rid of the ball faster inside the 10.
I'm still not sold on this OC from Minnyhaha whose main claim to fame is he beat us in 2019. Especially since it was their QB who did us in.
@rip. Minnesota beat auburn as well. I believe the guy will be a good fit we just got to fix the QB situation which I think we’ve done we’ll see more Saturday. I’m so looking forward to this game Saturday bob to see if Levis can get the job done. If Levis doesn’t pan out we’re in big trouble because that means we’ve missed on every QB on the roster but I believe he’s going to step up.

Basically I saw this sentence:
"I think if and when JF leaves if PSU can get the right HC and ACs, the recruiting will pick right back up"
That's why I felt you were implying JF is not recruiting well, but if you didn't mean that then okay 🙂
I'm still not sold on this OC from Minnyhaha whose main claim to fame is he beat us in 2019. Especially since it was their QB who did us in.
Tanner Morgan (QB) constantly tells everyone that the OC is the one who developed him and why he's good. He credits him with his development... fully even now that he's gone. Also, I don't think that's his main claim to fame... Western Michigan was a doormat and he turned their offense into a powerhouse. Did the same thing at Minnesota. 8 straight years of improving offenses, so I wouldn't say 1 game is all his reputation hinges on.
Minnesota's offense isn't exactly what it was since he left either. They scored 7 against Iowa.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the recruiting in PA,NJ and the.DMV which is down, way down! Even Nardoozi is out recruiting PSU in Pennsylvania.
@psujoe. It might be down this year but the other 5 years James Franklin did great recruiting them areas. Go look at the recruiting rankings from 2014-2019 and you’ll see James Franklin really recruited better than the great of all time Mr 409 did....and that’s saying something. Just deal with it Joe
@southern-psu-fan WRONG! Recruiting in PA,NJ and the DMV has been in decline for years and elite recruits in those areas no longer want to play for PSU.
PS JF has been here longer than 5 years! Are you cherry picking again?

"JF has been here longer than 5 years"
He said 2014-2019... Which only leaves out the 2020 class, who are all true freshman this year. He got 4 of the top 7 recruits in PA for 2020... so what exactly is your point other than barking at the moon?

Narduzzi has 19 total commits in his class and it's ranked 9 spots lower than our class that only has 14. I'm pretty sure he's not out recruiting us overall.
As for Pennsylvania, both schools have 3 guys in the top 20 of the state. Okay? I's rather have a 4 star kid from Florida or California than a 3 or 2 star kid from PA just to say we have more kids from PA.
All that said, for the 2022 class we currently have 4/5 commits from the top 11 in PA... So it looks like 2021's class is just a blip
I see Southern isn't the only JF apologist/cherry picker on this website. Kinda reminds me of the delusional defend Joe no matter what mantra that existed on Pennlive. Dominate the state is dead as is the NJ and DMV pipeline, FLA has been mostly a bust and anyone with any football sense knows that when Michigan comes back(and we all know they will) the Detroit connections will die too.

Your point is well taken Roam. However, I'm waiting to see some results at this stop on his career ladder, I haven't seen anything yet to make me optimistic. IMO his play calling stinks, especially in the red zone! If he's such a great OC, I wonder why Fleck left him get away.
