You wanted to know my thoughts on Afghanistan?? I'm glad we're pulling out; I just dont like the way it was done. View this video and learn. This guy pretty much sums it up. I dont care what side of the aisle your on, or what your opinion of war is or isnt.
What is happening over there is pretty much what happened in Nam when Saigon fell.
This is as political as you'll see me get on this forum.
I agree with you on almost everything except for the McCarthy clip. He is an arden supplier of the past administration and actually flip flopped on the former president's handling of the January 6 catastrophe. He doesn't exactly pass the credibility test.
Serious question, how would you see it unfold if this administration goes beyond the Taliban cut off time?
I'm 100 percent behind you on this one. The abandonment of American citizens and those that helped us and allowing terrorists to dictate how we handle things is absolutely disgustiing and embarrassing.

I agree with Lake. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of doing everything within the power of the U.S. to get those Americans out of Afghanistan. I also think the withdrawal was handled poorly and not planned very well at all, by either party. However, McCarthy is a shameless politician who takes every opportunity to make himself look good as he has not hidden his desire to be the next Speaker of the House. If he truly cared about the state of our democracy, he wouldn’t have made a mockery of the January 6 commission. He did so on purpose to undermine the whole process because the facts of that day would look unfavorable to the previous administration and himself.
George Bush should’ve never got us in that war lot of blood on his hands.
the past president shares culpability, lots of blame to go around for both administrations
100 percent wrong. The planning and execution were all carried out by the current administration.
They are more worried about getting thousands of illegals in here per day and eventually giving them the right to vote than they are taking care of their own citizens.

We had to go into Afghanistan. Iraq is the one we should have stayed out of.
@psujoe shouldn’t have gone in Iraq either Saddam kept piece over there. Saddam kept everybody over there in check and he didn’t allow Christians and Jews to be persecuted. Trump did a great job gettin piece back over there but before trump that place was a meat grinder and it’s probably headed back there. Never should’ve taken Saddam out.

Lake, I should have prefaced my post with "I neither like nor support McCarthy, but I agree with what he said in the clip". My apologies
Afghanistan will go back to the Taliban no matter when we pull out. We've all pretty well known that for years. As a combat veteran, I dont like that we're taking marching orders from our adversary of 20 years. It sends an all to familiar message to the troops that served and the families that lost loved ones in the war. If we're going to commit to war, than commit to it whole hearted and dont hold anything back. As a retiree from the DOD, It pains me to know that we had the technology to carry the day over there and we didnt. It frustrates me to see us leaving all that equipment behind, just as we did in Nam. I would like to see this administration grow a set and at LEAST stay there until all Americans are out and all the Afghan people that served and supported us are out in safety; deadline be damned. Have we learned nothing from what the Khmer Rouge did to the Vietnamese that helped us??
Just for the record, I voted for neither Biden nor Trump in this past election.
@tsuga I like everything you said brother except not voting for Trump lol. I got a new daddy now eyes on the Biden train now, I pull for whoever is president of the 🇺🇸 USA ole southern never roots against the USA that way I always stay on the winning side! 😁🇺🇸👍
@psujoe (this cut and paste from BBC article dated 2/29/20)
"The US and Nato allies have agreed to withdraw all troops within 14 months if the militants uphold the deal. The deal was signed by US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban political chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as a witness.Meanwhile US Defence Secretary Mark Esper was in the Afghan capital Kabul alongside Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani - whose government did not take part in the US-Taliban talks.Within the first 135 days of the deal the US will reduce its forces in Afghanistan to 8,600, with allies also drawing down their forces proportionately. The move would allow US President Donald Trump to show that he has brought troops home ahead of the US presidential election in November. The deal also provides for a prisoner swap. Some 5,000 Taliban prisoners and 1,000 Afghan security force prisoners would be exchanged by 10 March, when talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government are due to start."
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1. The Afghan government was never part of this agreement-how disrespectful to the citizens of Afghanistan is that? No matter how corrupt the Ahfgan government, (and it really was corrupt), is it to negotiate without their say?
2. The US and Nato allies agreed to withdraw troops within 14 months - the current administration is bound to the agreements of its prilor admin. and not just the US but NATO as well.
3.Prisoner exchange of 5,000 Talaban fighters for 1000 Afghan security forces - talk about disgusting, the fighters immediately melted into the Talaban fighting force...just brilliant!
So ya, I fully get it, the execution of this withdrawal is totally FUBAR but was always set up to fail. In Biden's woefull defense, to date, they are evacuating as many 86,000 Americans and "terrible" Afghan "immigrants" (note the sarcasm here). This is the number they felt they had to get out in the beginning and more will be lifted before the end of the agreement. That said, it's still widely known not all will get out.
But...I ask the question again, how would you see this playing out if they breach the time line to leave with the Taliban? Nobody is talking about that. Guns, bombs, guts and Rambo?
To be clear, I am not happy about this whole debacle, but don't think for a minute Biden should take all the blame. At least he takes full responsibility saying the buck stops here. That is something his predicesor never did. In fact, he still thinks he's president.

Has nothing to do with the incompetence shown in today's administration. But nice try libtards.

I couldn't agree more with you Tsuga and Lake...In my opinion the mistake he made was the same mistake they all make...They arm and throw money at the home countries troops and figure they are going to fight for their country...They armed 300,000 Afghans and they were pitted against 75,000 taliban...Biden never thought they would fold up like they did...He made the mistake of trusting that those folks would put up a fight for at least a few months for him to get everybody out...he figured he had 3 to 6 months and he had about 2 weeks...To date they have airlifted 85,000 people out of there...Is he going to get everybody out...no chance...But it is still the biggest airlift in history...He made a mistake in miscalculating the Afghan forces ability in holding off the Taliban...he is doing all he can to overcome it by getting as many of them out as possible...When are we going to learn that nation building don't work...We need to work on our own issues here at home for now and stop losing American and our allies lives and pouring trillions of dollars into worthless nation building wars...

I’m sorry you can’t brag about the lifeboats when you singlehandedly sunk the ship. I try to be politically neutral but please take off any political hats you may have and look at what’s going on in this country. Even Afghanistan aside, this administration has been nothing short of a dumpster fire. This country is a mess on multiple issues and if you deny it you are not being honest with yourself. Also, please don’t attack me about the…but but but Trump. Like Tsuga I wasn’t a fan of either. I’m an independent and want what’s best for the country. Things can change and I hope they do cause like most Americans we are patriotic and cheer for our great homeland. However, this administration thus far seems very incompetent.
I think we can all agree that we hope the Franklin administration is competent this year.

Just to clarify about Afghanistan, I'm talking about the suits not the boots. The suits sunk the ship but the boots are making heroic efforts to save people.
No question about it...He screwed up thinking the Afghan army would hold out for a longer period of time...As I said earlier, I am very surprised that these folks never learn...This has happened over and over again and these people make the same mistakes...These are phony wars and conflicts created by our leadership for their cronies and donors to make money...We have sacrificed too many lives and way too much money and material to line the pockets of military industrial complex...We should have never been there in the first place...Biden was right to get us out of there however he did a piss poor job executing our exit...

Great post! The incompetence of this administration should be obvious to everyone. We have a president that reads a teleprompter at news conferences and doesn't take questions unless they are scripted and from approved reporters and a VP that laughs hysterically when confronted and asked a serious question. Neither one has shown they are capable leading or making decisions. Who is really running this country? I don't believe it's Joe Biden.

No one is giving kudos to the present administration, nobody, so let’s get that out. Sorry, no kudos to the past administration either, plenty of lies and blunders there.
TaeBeutel had a great idea on another thread and that’s to move on to lighter subjects. Talking PSU football would be nice. I’m done with Afghanistan and politics, hope everyone else is too.
Prog, looking forward to some fantastic insights you’ve provided in the past…deal?

Now there's blood on the hands of the current disgusting administration. And then there's the Taliban taxiing Blackhawk Helicopters and using American miltary gear. By far the worst president of my lifetime, I thank god I wasn't duped into voting for these fools.

Where the hell is your leader libtards? Every other leader of major countries has already made statements and he is still hiding in his basement!
Maybe they'll trot out the man that's really running the country instead ( Obama)
Totally embarrassing!
