@psujoe IMO we’ve way over achieved in building the team for this year through the transfer portal. We were in trouble until MC got hired and we were all worried just go back and look at what we were saying when we had no coach. Gotta give the man a chance and I’m seeing 10 or more wins this year and when we start winning the big time recruits will jump on board but we have to give the man a little time. Nobody could’ve done better from what I see going on. We’re in good hands I’m telling ya.
Can’t say I was worried when we didn’t have a coach because I was assured by our AD that we were going to go after the big time talent in the portal and on the recruiting trail ! We’ve done neither, all we did in the portal was focus on signing recruits from a mediocre program and in recruiting we’ve done nothing but focus on 3star guys from bumf@ckEgypt.
Now I am worried
Iowa St went 8-4 last year with a beat up team and were in the big 12 championship game the year before at 11-2. We got thier best players on the team and are combining them with the studs we have. Teams like Iowa state are good lightweight teams and they’re a lightweight team because they don’t have the depth like a team like Georgia has but their starters are pretty good and we loaded up with iowa St best players. Georgia and Alabama aren’t loaded like they were because of NIL and the transfer portal.You’ll be very happy coming this fall homer just wait and see. Thank god we didn’t get that BYU coach or we’d be lucky to have a winner season this year. MC was as good as we could do imo. After Alabama last few games would you want Deboer, I wouldn’t? IMO we got the best coach and hit a grandslam with MC
@southern-psu-fan you’ve preached to me for years that that Big 12 sucks and they don’t play real football in that conference and now you’re telling me we should be excited about stealing players from a team in that conference that went 8-4?

@psujoe big 12 is a weaker conference but they still have good players the conference teams just don’t have much depth like the big 10 and SEC teams do. Look how the SEC teams have taken a huge step back because they don’t have the depth they use to have. I’m seeing 11-1 or 10-2. Nil and transfer portal has changed the game so what I thought 3 or 4 years ago is different. I’m still trying to figure it out homer lol

When I was on vacation I had the opportunity to do some reading on this guy Campbell and to see what his approach is to building this program...This guy is going to build this team based on character and his system...He isn't going to be chasing prima donna's...He wants hard nosed high character football players with upside talent...His claim to fame is developing players which is something I haven't seen at Penn State in a long time...He catches a break this year because the schedule is very forgiving and he really shouldn't lose a game in the regular season...He travels to Michigan but I really don't know how good they are going to be...They should probably win that game and go undefeated and play in the B1G championship game...At worst they end up with one loss...
@the-funeral-director I’m not sure that will work with the NIL and transfer portal. With that approach I don’t believe you can recruit top 5 or 10 or get the best players out of the portal. We gotta have some of the top talent or we’ll be a team like BYU…very good with good coaching but we won’t win NC’s. I believe he’ll adjust to whatever needs to be done to win NC’s. We gotta give the man time but I love what I’m seeing so far.
Portal players:
Smash mouth O and D lineman; they just get the job done and don't need fuss and buss to keep'em happy; just feed them.
DBs that can set the edge, cover the reciever and knock the shit out of someone when its needed; a bit of a personality hype, but you can find ones that live quite and play big. Gotta pay those guys.
Again...How many 5* or even 4* players did Indiana have? It's a team sport and if you get a couple of prima donna's in there it can ruin a ballclub...My belief is that he is trying to build a hard nosed culture void of any cancer in the clubhouse so to speak...Never underestimate team chemistry, work ethic and attitude when it comes to determining the success of a team...I see what this guy is doing and I like it...He is bringing culture change to that program and I like the path he is taking...As with everything with sports it comes down to winning...If this guy wins ballgames the higher ranked recruits will follow...
@the-funeral-director i agree on some of the stuff you said FD but Indiana did have the Heisman winner QB and if we did go back and redo the stars on the Indiana team they wouldn’t be a bunch of 3*. Had Terry Smith fired Jim Knowles when JF got fired we win that Indiana and Iowa game. I called for it FD lol
@the-funeral-director all I can say is he better get to work on keeping the best players from PA at PSU or he’s not gonna last long.
Just because a certain philosophy worked at Indiana doesnt mean it will work for us. I can remember this past spring when you guys were so confident about us winning a NC because we were following the same path that OSU and Meatchicken did by retaining players. How’d that work out for us?
From what I’m hearing we’re on the verge of losing Max Hiller. I don’t know what’s going on but recruiting is definitely headed in the wrong direction.

This dude puts things in perspective why we’re missing on the top recruits at the moment. MC just doesn’t have a relationship with the top players in PA but as time goes on and he builds some relationships with the players the recruiting dude Brian Smith believes Penn St has a good chance at flipping these dudes to Penn St. The RB doesn’t believe he can play right away that’s why he picked Georgia which is a good thing because that means our RB’s are that good.
As far as this recruiting stuff goes I think it boils down to 2 things...#1 winning and winning the big games and #2 NIL money...These 2027 recruits and beyond are all still in play...Penn State goes out and wins a bunch of ballgames next year and makes a run in the playoffs and these kids will come...The money people at Penn State are going to need to ante up the money for them to be competitive...They just spent a billion dollars to renovate the stadium and facilities...If they don't win ballgames that will be a waste of money because nobody will go to the games if they ain't getting it done...They shouldn't lose a game this year with the schedule they have...Michigan on the road is the only game that should be in question and with 1 loss that should get them into the B1G title game...I said prior what my concerns are and I said I was going to keep my pie hole shut and see what happens...That is what I am going to do...They shit the bed this year with this schedule and end up with 2 or 3 losses on the season and this guy is going to be in big trouble...I am rooting for his success because the program needs him to be successful because if he isn't it is going to set the program back 10 years...
