The SEC can't do that, it is not in their power to say a person doesn't have to pay taxes. LOL

Now if you are talking certain states are looking into exemptions for NIL, I believe a few in the south have already passed those laws. Some states don't even have income taxes.

@roaminglion yes the states. Don’t think for one second that the SEC ain’t pushing this because they’re looking for an advantage and they might get it.

So the SEC is trying to find another way to bend the rules? Gee what a surprise !!

I’ve read that they are already ok with players dropping out of school at any time of year and then amazingly showing up on another schools football roster. That’s their solution to avoid the transfer portal and tampering rules all together.

Texas, Tennessee, and Florida have no income tax. Arkansas passed legislation to exempt NIL from taxes, and Mississippi also passed legislation though it is not yet law. Other states in the SEC considering it are Georgia, South Carolina, and Louisiana.

Not just the south though... Illinois and New Jersey are considering it too.

@roaminglion

What is the rationale for not taxing "earned" income and why would it not apply to other income like playboy models who also derive income from NIL?

I believe that the Arkansas law relates to NIL funding managed by the University. Basically it's legalese that carves out a very specific niche for collage athletes, or anyone attending the university that has an NIL deal the is related to the university in some way.

So unfortunately no playboy models... although if you send them my way I promise to pay them under table, so no taxes.

I thought that Universities could not be involved in managing NIL.

I thought that Universities could not be involved in managing NIL.

That changed with the House vs. NCAA settlement in 2025. Now Universities can directly pay athletes, develop dedicated NIL departments, and facilitate "opportunities" to attract players.

...but they still insist it's not pay for play. LMAO

@psujoe Still too chilly for SPF's candy ass to come north that early. He needs to come up for one of those, after Thanksgiving, night games to understand what cold really is. 🤣
