Give him the reigns right now, see what happens. We will see if Franklin was mucking up the offense and stunting growth. We will see what he was doing to the defense.
Just get him out of there and play out the season with AK. After the year is up, if we looked different and better than we know. If not, start looking for an elite cosch in earnest.
It's like you all said with Grunk... why not at this point. Nothing to lose
Need to try something to get something good going again. DA played good today but after the loss last weekend the players played like they’ve had enough that’s why I believe had Grunk got a shot today it may could’ve been the spark the team was looking for. After the loss last week the team was thinking it’s the same old shit and that’s when things go south. There’s no leadership on offense and definitely not at QB. Gotta do something to get some excitement back and James Franklin has to be held accountable for this disaster today. Nobody is on the same page and that’s James Franklin fault.
I agree with you Roam...But I gotta say I may be wrong...It may not have been Allar...The play calling, time management and overall coaching was just abysmal...I don't know how much meddling he is doing...I can tell ya the whole world knew that kid was going to keep the football...He was spying the kid with the wrong player...He had 0 spying him and he is too slow...He needed 24 spying him...The time management at the end of the half and the play calling on the final drive was a joke...Then he don't even rush the punter? I wonder if he had a big bet on UCLA today? I mean something is terribly wrong here...Nobody is that incompetent...
Of all the people that have left Franklin for better jobs I've never heard the suggestion that he was the reason or the problem. But a professional wouldn't do that anyway. He has pushed some out and fired some but we know so little. I still ask why the turnover and if he empowers coaches. I haven't heard an ex player say anything other than the complaint about the doctoring. Is he narcissistic? I listen to him talk and it is just shallow. Reminded of Bull Durham where Crash tells Meat he has to learn his cliches. Dogs and I suspect football players know when you are not real. Joe was real, but Joe would likely fail in this environment. He might quit and go to the Ivy's.
It must be the worst time to be a head coach. In history you just had to kiss the players behind during recruiting, then it was all the time due to transfer. Now it is all the time and they are highly paid but they don't have any performance requirements. All you can do is sit them and not sure they care about that. That being said there are 100's lined up wanting your job JF.
As far as incompetent, I'd propose his graduate assistant, or girl holding his headphones was smart enough to say 'Sir, they may consider a safety'. Maybe they are afraid to? Hell, of the 10 players on the LOS none had the inkling that the punter would run backwards? Have PSU players become stupid? Has he created a culture where people keep their heads down? Players came back for the NC Run, I suppose you could argue they were well paid. There is a failure here and he hasn't figured it out but it may have become cultural.
He may not have said it but he sure should be thinking that the coaching was bad. He should only survive if he has an awakening AND due to the big buyout. 45 Mill buys a lot of players.
They are not firing him, paying 50 million dollars, letting the portal open immediately and simultaneously throwing in the towel to the rest of the season with two top ten opponents on schedule. The season is over, maybe the mutually part ways after the season through arbitration. I personally think they’re stuck with him. Who really replaces him? Please spare me an internal hires, the entire staff is trash from top to bottom.
@kularrow I told ya brother, when things start going south it’s a ripple effect and Penn St can’t let a nickel hold up a dollar. Of course 50 million ain’t a nickel but it’s chump change if folks don’t buy season tickets and give back to the program. I know of one wise tough old dude that said he’s finished giving until a change was made. I thought that’s what I heard anyway 😂 keep doing the same shit, you get the same shit baby
Probably right kul. It is just business and they look at the big picture. Conservative to keep him, but boy would it be nice if JF woke up. If getting his behind rearranged by 0-4 UCLA doesn't do it, nothing will.
We said there are no super teams this year and we had a chance. Some teams have developed and I have to say we have stagnated or regressed. The preseason schedule hid our problems.
@underlion the ND loss was a wake up call for me. The Ga Tech head coach Brent Key is a man on the rise but he might not want to leave tech but it’s worth a look anyway. He’s a George O’Leary, Ralph Friedgen and Saban dude. Can’t get any better grooming.
