Thought this was an interesting take. I guess we're just Texas Tech/Washington State now lol.

To answer this guys question the answer is NO...You can't win a championship if you can't at least pretend to run the ball now and then to keep a defense honest...Against inferior competition you can get away with it but you ain't beating a top 10 team that way...

I would change the title of this post to Lack of a Blocking Game

Historical analytics of Run-Pass Ratio in recent college football. Seems our current run production is in line with Yurcich's most prolific offenses at Oklahoma State. He's never been a run-first guy.

It's the line, not Yucich. For the past 3 years, at 3 different schools, Yurcich had offenses running for 190+ yards per game. When he was at Ohio State, they were a top 5 rushing offense.

He adapts to what he has, and here... he doesn't have a run blocking line.

And to think, just a few short weeks ago, we were wringing our hands about the passing game.

I was wringing my hands about the offense PERIOD...It is clear that Clifford is going to flourish in this offense and has taken a big step forward in his development and decision making under this offense and coaching staff...It is the offensive line that is the concern...This team will go as far as this offensive line takes em...This team is a championship team...The only thing in my mind holding them back is the offensive line...If the OLine gets fixed I believe Penn State can win the National Title...If they don't I believe they lose 2 or maybe 3 games... am banking on this staff getting that unit squared away...

@roaminglion  I still believe if we had a future NFL caliber RB the OL would look better. I’m hoping Lovett gets most of the snaps this week he looks like he hits the holes faster and has better vision. I know all our RB’s are trying their best I just don’t see a Barkley or Sanders on our roster but I do believe we got one coming next year. I know Barkley and Sanders are big shoes to fill just saying we don’t have any stud RB’s we just got ok RB’s

@southern-psu-fan Honestly I think he looks better because of his speed, they run him to the outside. Our big problem is the middle of the line, our tackles are fine.

I agree that we may see more of Lovett because he is better suited for outside runs

The center and tackles are OK...The guards are very weak...specifically the right guard...They really have a lot of work to do to get this unit squared away...

The O'line has been a problem for a long time, Barkey couldn't even get yards up the middle with any consistency and no matter who was taking snaps, they had to be able to run/scramble.

I really don't get why the this program can't put together a solid perennial O'line considering it is not an anomaly for teams in the Big to produce some O'lines that are pretty damn stout.

I honestly don't know what the problem is...I don't think it is the talent as they consistently get highly touted recruits for the OLine...I think it comes down to the scheme and coaching...It's been a loooooong time since Penn State had an offensive line that you could hang your hat on...I believe the talent is there and they can fix this thing but they have a lot of work to do...

I'd just like to see'em line up, under center and get 2-3 yards every time; I don't even have a good feeling about that anymore. Hell, 3rd and 2, that's a pass play now; jeesh, just stack'em and attack'em, pound and ground; just something other than a prayer and 3 and out. I miss the days of Kijana, Curtis, Larry, etc..

@psu61  you’re making my point by them names 61, when you got future first round NFL RB’s it makes everything look good especially the OL.  LJ, Curtis Enis, Kijana Carter, Miles Sanders and Barkley make any OL look good. When we get these RB’s again,  you’ll see 4 and 5 yard runs most plays.

I got it I got it! The reason for poor O'line play is....the face mask! They need to go back to the full face guard!

@southern-psu-fan Wait a minute, let me get this straight. Last year you were touting what a beast Cain was going to be this year. You were saying he was our best back last year. All year long you were saying we lost our best back and how loaded we are t running back. Now all of a sudden the new transfer portal kid is the best back and our running back stable is junk with no NFL prospects.

Bro, your all over the place!!!!

Just busting your chops for the fun of it! LOL Yes, they need to improve on that run game or the #4 WILL NOT last long!

@navylion  I’ve said many times that I’ll change my mind in a minute if I see something ain’t gettin done. I really thought our RB’s would be better. I’m just not feeling the RB’s right now they are not up to Penn State standards. As I’ve said, I know they’re trying their best they just ain’t good enough to be starting at Penn State.

58 minutes into the game on Saturday we'll be leading 41-10. Indiana scores a late TD against our bench players to make the final score 41-17.

Lovett runs for 122 yds and Cain scores two on the ground. Lee chips in with 55 yds but an early 3rd period fumble sends him to the bench.

Clifford, comes back to earth with with a 17-31 performance and 3 tds; one on the ground two in the air.

Suzy posts first thing Sunday morning that we beat another cupcake. He finds an article in an old Mother Earth News magazine about the drop in milk production from the local HV herd on the weekends we play at home. He unsuccessfully tries to tie that in with why we're ranked too high.

@psu61

I really miss the days of Mitchell & Harris.  Bruising OL, QB under center, legitimate FB.... 3rd and short wasn't a problem.  I like JoePa's quote about the difference between Mitchell and Harris....... "If I gave the ball to Lydell and asked him to run through a brick wall, he'd say ok coach let's go.... If i gave Franco the ball and asked him to run through a brick wall, he'd walk over to the wall, count the bricks, come back and say ok coach let's go.  Ah, those were the days!
