@southern-psu-fan lol Not barking up any tree. Just wondering how you can say Paterno did so well & Franklin isn't cutting it. When actually Franklin has done a bit better in his fist 10 yrs. Therefore, take your apples and oranges, toss in a banana and some maraschino cherries, go make a fruit salad.

  • In his first 10 years as Penn State's head football coach (1966-1975), Joe Paterno led the Nittany Lions to a 77-13-1 record, including 3 undefeated seasons (1968, 1969, 1973), and a 31-game unbeaten streak.

In his first 10 years as Penn State's football coach, James Franklin amassed an 88-39 overall record, including 56-32 in the Big Ten, with 5 seasons of 10+ wins, and 3 Big Ten losing seasons, and a 4-5 record in bowl games.

I googled this and google even tried to cheat the goat out of an undefeated season so I fixed that. It was really before my time but the goat had already won most of the major bowl games and had 3 undefeated seasons. The wins losses ain’t even close but we play more games today. I’m not anti James Franklin I actually love the dude but he needs to win some big games and I bet he’d tell yall the same thing. He knows he has to do better and he knows he’s been a disaster against the top dawgs. Y’all seeing something I ain’t. 😂 I love fruit salad BT lol   Ya’ll did notice Roam left the ass kicking the goat out on Texas and USC in them first 10 years and only mentioned Kansas and Missouri 😂

lol Ok brother. I'm just sayin', if Franklin keeps winning 10-11 games a season, keeps reasonable control of the player's off campus shenanigans, the board won't be firing Franklin, O$U, Mich or Oregon loses or not.

@been-there-ii  I just want Penn St season ticket holders like Caven, MtNittany and Homer to see Penn St beat teams other than Villanova, Iowa and Indiana BT they spend a lot of money for them season tickets. 😂 man I love Clayton’s fruitcake too 😁 with Diet Coke

No he’s not on the hot seat YET but anything less than a B1G championship and serious run at the NC this season will set his seat on fire for 2026.

What a ridiculous comparison.

First off, Joe was playing seasons in which he never played a ranked team before the bowl game.

Second, Joe wasn't taking over a team crippled by sanctions.

Third, Joe wasn't in a conference. He didn't have to consistently play highly ranked big boy teams year in and year out.

...and when he did play highly ranked teams in those first 10 years, he usually lost.

Sorry, you're just running away from your heavyweight comments and judging Franklin by a different standard. I'm certain if Franklin had schedules where he played zero ranked teams, then got Kansas in a bowl game he'd have an undefeated season too.

Joe was an amazing coach, one of the best all time. However you just can't say your criticism  of Franklin's first ten years is he can't beat heavyweights... then say Paterno's first 10 years were "as good as you can do" with schedules devoid of ranked teams and no heavyweight wins.

@roaminglion  ain’t nobody defended James Franklin more than me about the sanctions but the sanctions are over and winning big games against the heavyweights has gotten worse. Homer is correct and that’s been my point. Beating Iowa, Nevada and Illinois ain’t good enough today we need to beat Oregon, Ohio State and ND or at least win our fair share.

Back in 2017? many people thought PSU was poised to take over and become the big dog of the B1G, expectations were high, recruiting was getting close to elite and we were coming off a big win over OSU and conference championship the year prior. James Franklin failed miserably and it took years and a lot of $$ to get the team back into the same position again. 2025 is basically Franklins second chance to prove himself and it’s doubtful that he gets a third chance if he fails.

Only team in history to beat two top 10 teams and get zero credit for it.

As it is with Franklin... The Franklin paradox:

"James Franklin can't win big games, so if he does win a big game it by default couldn't have actually been a big game because he can't win big games"

If it wasn't for JoePa's success, over the course of his career, we'd still be playing in a 43,000 capacity stadium complete with a running track, lol!

@roaminglion  not me, I’ve always said James Franklin give #15 a scholarship to help win games when some were saying it was lucky we blocked the FG to beat Ohio St. we were better than Ohio St and we should’ve been in the playoffs. 31-0 is what happens when the big 10 rigs whoever they want in the playoffs. The scam CFP committee listened to Jim Delany and took Ohio State which was total BS!
