Just looked at the haul this signing day and was shocked to see Clemson sign 6 5* players today. Several other schools got 2 or 3 a piece. Penn State had 11 4* and 16 3*. The previous thread about "what is elite" can be answered by looking at that list.
They all say Franklin and staff are great recruiters - so is that lack of 5* players due to our locale? , which I understand, due to not so great recruiting?, or due to our academic standards? Most likely a combination of all 3, but dang I'd like to see a recruiting class that looks like what those other teams got.
3 - 5*
22 - 4*
That over a multitude of years would help get us to that "elite" standard IMO

Texas, USC, and Florida State have all gotten many 5* guys over the past 4 years... Hasn't really helped them become elite, it's more than stars.
Iowa doesn’t recruit well but each year the Hawkeyes put a good team on the field. Coaching makes a difference.

Have you seen the new Clemson football facilities? If you don't think those new facilities don't help land 5* players you would be kidding yourself. There is a major reason Clemson sunk that much money into it.
Right now I think Many of those players see a school like Clemson giving them the biggest stage and coverage to jump to the NFL.
Maybe we could take Clemson's 5* and 4* players and give them to the poor teams...

JoePa had a lot of success developing 2* kids !
Dabo Swinney was quoted as saying if the choice comes down to a 5*-4* OL/DL player and a 5*-4* skill player they are taking the OL/DL player first. I think Clemson, BAMA, OSU put a ton of effort into the courtship of these players.
That was what one of the Rutgers fans was hoping to get implemented a few years back. Sounded a little like socialist reform for college football. Also had the cojones to add, if the recruits didn't like playing where they were allotted, too bad, they couldn't play.
They do come up with some interesting concepts.....
