I guess it should have been predictable that this would start again.

I think JF  can still be successful at PSU but he’s gotta bring in coaches that kids want to play for and believe can get them to the next level as that is the way the game has gone.

I just don’t know if JF can get those types of coaches in because in turn it takes a coach who wants to coach under him. I’d imagine coaches take jobs under Saban et al. knowing that it leads to success one way or the other.

@psu61 Alabama, Michigan, Miss St, Tennessee, NFL and other colleges have raided James Franklin coaching staff the last 5 years.

61, I believe that’s part of our problem right now to many coaching changes.

I think that's a big part of the problem.  IMO the coaches he brings in are more concerned with their upward mobility than good, old fashioned, nitty gritty coaching.  They ignore the basics and focus on where their next stop on the ladder will be.

@rip. We got to give ‘em a little time to get their feet wet. New OC, new DL coach, new OL coach that spells disaster when you turn the ball over. When Levis come in and the turnovers stopped we starting playing better on both sides of the ball. I can’t wait to play Iowa Saturday Mr bob to see Levis start the game and see how we finish because Iowa is a solid football team. I’ll take the 4 losses and smile if we’ve found our QB. I know  some ain’t crazy about him but I seen a QB that can win when I watched him play we’ll see these next 6games if I’m right and I say 6 games because I believe I’m right and we’re going to win our bowl game! 6-4 baby 😁

I like Levis, Southern.  He's a gamer - shows some heart.  I don't know if he can develop into another Trace, but IMO the potential is there.  Then again, you know what they say about potential (It can get a coach fired!).  I'd love to see us win out.  As always, time will be the great teller.  Go Lions!

Gotta say other HC assistant coaches get raided also but can’t say I see the same effect on the home team. Maybe I’m wrong but..of the assistant coaches to depart, who is excelling elsewhere?

I like Will as well. Give’em a chance. Can always pull and put Clifford in.

I'm sorry 61, but I'd really be desperate before I'd put Clifford in again.  I don't know what happened with him, but imo he's following in Hack's footsteps.

I wonder now that Will Muschamp has been fired from South Carolina, I wonder if he’d be willing to be our DC.  He’s a pretty good defensive mind.

I almost forgot that's the official excuse this year "too many coaching changes". That's just another in your long list of excuses for James Franklin's incompetence. Is that one you had ready before the season started or did you come up with it after we were toyed with by OSU?

I think Clifford unfortunately isn’t as good as he was projected. If you look at Hacks tape from some of the 7-7 camp, he skill set was obvious at that time, he needed a lot of work, solid physicals, but needed a lot of work and development that didn’t happen. Sometimes what’s in between the ears just won’t  sync with the physical attributes.  No fault, no shame just doesn’t work out.

@psu61 I agree 61 I believe Clifford is giving it his all, he just ain’t good enough to be the starting QB at Penn St but that could change with the new OC we’ll have to wait and see. BTW very few are good enough this is big boy football 🏈

@psujoe. I said it’s part of the problem. New OL, DL and OC coaches, losing our #1 and #2 RB’s  and losing a top 5 NFL pick LB’r plus a QB that’s not playing good and not taking care of the ball has hurt this team and it’s showing up on the field. I’m just giving my opinion what’s wrong with the team  I’m not making excuses we lost fair and square.

Now that the USC rumors are bubbling up again I'm wondering if the players are hearing even more credible rumours about a departure. After all, Franklin isn't denying it. If there is any credibility to this, it shouldn't be suprising the players are giving up on a coach that is giving up on them.

I tend to agree with you, Alabama has had more coaching changes that any other team and Saban keeps on chugging.

If you think those things are bad just wait till you see the activity in the transfer portal late this year/early next year.

@roaminglion. Penn St is not even close with the talent Alabama has. Alabama was what first or second in the country in recruiting 10 straight years. I do believe Alabama defense has took a hit because of all the DC’s Sabans lost the last 5 years.

There’s Ohio st, Texas, USC, Georgia and LSU that can hang with Alabama in recruiting if they have the right coach everybody else is a big step behind.

@ripwe don' want this to be Bolden and McGloin again.  Stick with Levis this year and let them fight it out in  the summer

it was an example, plenty of really good teams continually lose assistant coaches.

Agreed.  Maybe riding the pine for the rest of the year will do Clifford some good.

How good has Clifford ever really been? Someone on here stated that he's never really been that good and has padded his stats against really bad teams and I have to agree. I think someone else will step up either this year or next spring and Cliff will be a transfer portal entry. Will be interesting to see if his brother signs in the early signing period.
