IMO, most do, some just love money.  Like in the real world, most people want to work, some only want a pay check.

The generation playing football today doesn't care about anything other than themselves, they also don't care about the school that gave them the opportunity and free education or the fans that essentially fund their opportunity. Things are made worse at PSU by a head coach that holds the university hostage every chance he gets and only says "I love it here" or "I'm not going anywhere" once his objectives are met. We are one of the leaders in losing players in the portal and now the leader in players opting out of the bowl game and I fear this trend is going to continue. We can't expect our players to remain loyal when the man at the top sets a poor example and also is not.

Not sure how that got cut off, was supposed to say:

We can't expect our players to remain loyal when the man at the top sets a poor example and also is not loyal himself.

Its a different game and world now. In regards to the program being held hostage, I disagree. The program has consented to being in the position they are in with JF b/c of ineptitude and no one having the audacity to end his run. He came at the right time, did his thing and now needs to go just like any other CEO who has outlived their skill set for the given need.

Maybe the players today realize they deserve to live their own lives, and not the one fans and coaches have set for them.

Interesting point and hard to disagree with. Where does loyalty to team fit in?  How about commitment? What about pride?

Cael Sanderson speaks often about gratitude. Don’t see the same from the football team

I think PSU led the nation in number of players opting out. I think that says a lot.

With the way things are going, football is no longer a team sport.

Loyalty to a University went out the window the moment the schools decided to let coaches do whatever they wanted. When the so called leaders of teams are allowed to jump ship whenever they want, you can't blame the players for wanting the same ability.

I get it Roam. Not blaming players but the culture today emphasizes selfishness. Great teams, organizations, companies, thrive on teamwork. On the battlefield soldiers sacrifice their lives for their brothers.  What is happening is not good for our country and certainly not good for college football. I just think the whole thing stinks.
