Good crew Chiefs gets fired all the time in NASCAR and goes to other teams and wins. Sometimes change is needed for coaches and teams. When things start going south it’s hard to get it back and that’s in most sports I’m just a believer in making changes before it gets to far south or you might become Nebraska and Miami and I believe we’re becoming Miami. 11-11 last 2 years getting beat by Maryland, Indiana and Illinois man that just ain’t going to cut it baby
IMO, a good HC, not even and excellent HC would (have):
1) looked at the O'line 5 years ago and saw the train wreck developing and white boarding a SWAT or OODA loop and fixing the issues; hell even some of the members on this board saw it coming and we are just arm chair HCs, fact.
2) figured out how to clock manage; again, arm chair HCs do that every weekend.
3) figured out other coaches and teams really don't have any concerns playing his teams.
4) gotten out of his own way when it was clear that it wasn't working out; some personalities simply cannot do that and won't move on when there is no pressure to do so; that there essentially creates a situation in itself that can take years to recover from if ever.
5) ....
In reality, IMO, JF is a likeable coach who is an excellent recruiter of skill players but not foundation players, he is an optimist, and a good 2-3 year HC that brings enthusiasm, good spirited environment, and apparently is pretty easy to get along with from a Board perspective, in fact, IMO, his vision and results are in line with the current AD and Board, and as much as some complain about JF, the fact of the matter is that the AD and Board are not. Clearly JF is achieving the deliverables that have been established by the AD and Board.

6. Eliminate the bonehead play calls; I.e. fake punts and field goals,
@bdc Agreed. Clifford needs to cut the chord and move on. He's average at best and taking away opportunities from kids who deserve it.
