If next year is as disappointing as this year, will the BOT look to replace Franklin? This team underperformed all year and the coaching at best was marginal.

Maybe you should get Roam to figure out the parameters, do an extensive study then come back here and report his findings!

Perspective, Average QB, Below average O-line.  The offense held this team back.

Yea, still the responsibility of the head coach.

6 top players sit out, 5 on defense?  Effectively half the defense?  A defense that was worn down and run over by IL with its stars and 5 players more depth.  Lets be honest, our LB's were good but not dominant when they were all playing.

Did Arkansas really need to test a game plan on offense or defense?

On our side, it is hard to adjust when your line can neither run block, nor pass block...what do you do?

Besides,  like the announcers said in the beginning, ARK wants it more

All interesting (and comical) replies. But comments don’t impact the fact that (Houston we have a problem) Penn State football has a problem.

Football is very much like a Rock Band.  The band will only be as good as their drummer, and a football team will only be as good as their QB.  It may emotionally crushing for a starter to come back for his 6th year and lose the starting nod, but man oh man do I hope someone beats out Clifford for the starting job next year.  And to let Yurcich have 100% full control of the offense.  I love Penn State football, but cutting the cord and missing many of the games this year may have been a blessing, I didn't get to watch the subpar performances.

Clifford should have moved on. Would have given him a fresh start somewhere else and given JF a different excuse for next year; Clifford deserves better, the dude is a trooper and I sincerely wish him well.

I'm thinking Cliff ends up in the portal and transfers out along with at least 2 RB's.

Not sure Clifford would be sought after in the portal.

The problem is not Clifford, the problem is the OL

@roaminglion

I'm not arguing the line isn't a huge problem, it is - but after 3 years as a starter, we have seen that Clifford is hot or cold, and typically struggles on the shortish quote unquote easy throws.  I'm looking for a more consistent starter at QB - I know the 35yd like a bullet into tight coverage plays may make Sports Center - but I would take 9 out of 10 successful short throws to the runner out of the backfield vs 4 for 10 ratio with that one pass making the duh du duh, duh du duh sounds.

All one needs to do is remember how bad Patrick Mahoney’s looked in the Super Bowl with an ineffective line after injuries to their tackles.

Yes, JF has built a mighty strong straw house and sells pitch to go along with it.

Perspective

It became clear The Emperor Has No Clothes.  Maybe as early as Villanova but definately at IL.

And all Franklin could do was threaten to 'establish the run'

Clifford is maybe an above average QB but without a run game and time for the longer passes he was clearly not able to carry the team.  Had he had vision and the ability to find and hit short passes in stride maybe a game plan could have camouflaged the lack of clothes but his weakness was the only strategy left.

Behind Alabama's line he is a top 5 QB, behind this line he is the second coming of BOB's QB.  Good ole what's his name?

Still Franklin's responsibility to clothe the team....

Speaking of clothes we used to say black shoes, basic blues, no names, all game.  Now we try to sell that we have clothes while hoping nobody notices our ______ hanging out.

They noticed.  And a defense short 5 stars couldn't hide it.

Interesting excuses about Frank & Clifford. But they don’t charge the results.

Franklin is not a good coach.

Excuses?  Leaders don't fix excuses.  SWOT Analysis and move forward

Opinion?

If you know he is not a good coach then surely you will enlighten us on what a good coach would have done.  Maybe there is a mid season trading system like the Pros have?  Maybe he should have paid Levis more to stay?  Clearly he should have recruited and developed offensive linemen better.

Now some of his aggressiveness going for it is questionable and statistically his sucess rate seems poor but please elaborate.  Maybe you can tell us what the AL, GA, and Clemson coaches would have done.....assuming they didnt have top 5 classes every year.  Wait, how about OSU?  How many acceptable Coaches are there?

Can I pick 8 players that have to sit for AL and we'll see how they do?  Rutgers has a good coach, problem is?  Nebraska?  Northwestern?

That Arkansas team gave AL trouble and the Auburn team we beat effectively beat AL had the RB stayed in bounds....bad coaching?

How did all star Clemson do this year?  Great recruits....same coach....fire him! Dabo is no good.

And you are an anti PSU Troll anyway?

Anybody have more players 'sit out'?  I can only think of 3 reasons PSU would have a extraordinarily high #.  1) lots of good players 2) a culture problem  3) Risk/reward analysis said there was no upside.

Oh wait, having players sit out is just an excuse.  Having critical players injured...excuse.  Bad calls, excuse......

Later...wrestling season.

PSU will never be elite under Franklin. You are the EXCUSE guy. I am the FACTS guy. Our players today were uninspired. The team lost  Losing season last year  Mediocre 7-6 season this year.

Why don’t you present facts that documents Franklin is a good coach.

@sky  his Vanderbilt years. He’s won 11 games 3 times 2016, 2017 and 2019 winning cotton and fiesta bowls and losing the Rose Bowl. This is coming out of death penalty sanctions. He’s a very good coach that made a few bad decisions hiring and firing coaches and it’s bit him in the butt plain and simple. There’s a lot of talent on the Penn State roster at every position and they’re not being developed and that is James Franklin’s fault.
