If I were a member of the coaching staff, I would focus on building TEAM unity and completing the season with wins so that the TEAM gets into the best bowl possible. If there are trust issues between the players and coaches, the final games could be difficult to watch. If Yurcich really was the problem, the offense might be inspired.
The following is a link to the Week 12 Bowl Projections from Sporting News:
Week 12 bowl projections: Why Big Ten or SEC won’t get two playoff teams (msn.com)
And if Yurcich was not the problem, the final games could be difficult to watch. Either way, we'll be playing Jimmy ball the final games and that could be difficult to watch.
Well if Franklin is indeed taking over the offensive side of the ball it is going to be interesting to see what he does and if it is radically different than when Yurcich was here...It won't take long to know who was running the offense when you see what happens with this unit the last 3 games of the season...
I’m telling y’all, Mike Yurcich was running the offense. James Franklin fired him because he was t getting it done..plain and simple.
I always felt JF was trying to "sell me" every time I listened to his post game interviews after a loss. THIS time, I think he was more nervous and felt the restlessness of the fans and maybe gets it now! He doesn't need money, he is set for life EVEN if they fire him and buy him out. It now becomes MORE about your legacy and how you are perceived by others. The last thing he wants is for somebody like Urban to step in and win a NC making him ( JF ) look bad. Maybe he will be a listener and stop BSing so much!
@southern-psu-fan You even read the article posted in another thread ? JF’s offense at Vandy was doing the same stupid things that his offense does at PSU today.
@roaminglion the offense doesn’t suck it’s just not good enough to beat Michigan and Ohio St we can beat everybody else in the big 10. We also beat the PAC champs Utah when they knocked off USC 2 times with possibly the best QB in the country. We’ve beat Auburn 2 times while Patrick Nix was QB y’all know the dude that’s up for the heisman this year? We also destroyed West Virginia and we’ve beat the west champion the last 2 years of the big 10. There’s 4 or 5 teams we can’t beat with Mike Yurcich the rest we can beat imo but that’s not good enough for James Franklin so he making a change to see if he can get an OC in here to beat the 4 or 5 teams he doesn’t think he can beat. You and homer need to stop listening to all that podcast shit on the radio and looks at the results on the field…we’ve beat every team we’ve played the last 2 years except 2 which both teams are top 5 teams and both teams have better QB play and that’s why they won just like I told y’all when the season started, to beat Ohio St and Michigan we gotta be better at QB and imo James Franklin is making this change to get better at QB so we can win a NC. Again, since Ohio St, Michigan, Georgia and Alabama can beat us doesn’t mean the rest of the teams can.
homer, 2 years James Franklin won 9 freaking games at Vanderbilt winning bowl games and beating Georgia, Florida and Tennessee in the same year regardless if these teams weren’t up to top the top of their game, that’s so hard to do. You can complain about Penn St not beating Michigan I get it but criticizing a man for his offense at Vanderbilt when he was winning 9 games a year playing in the SEC…you’re going to lose that argument every time it’s not even debatable. Coaches have to do everything right just to make a bowl game at Vanderbilt which is 6 wins, James Franklin was winning 9 games.
Franklin finished his Vanderbilt career with a record of 24–15 (an average of 8 wins per year).
Year | Position | Record |
---|---|---|
1999 Michigan State Spartans | Head Coach | 10-2-0 |
1998 Michigan State Spartans | Head Coach | 6-6-0 |
1997 Michigan State Spartans | Head Coach | 7-5-0 |
1996 Michigan State Spartans 6-6 |
that’s Slick Nicks record at Michigan St. James Franklin did better at Vanderbilt than Saban did at Michigan St or as good at the least playing in a tougher conference. He also did better than Moorhead at Miss St
Y’all know this is just fun time with me talking football but sometimes the post can look like I’m being a smart butt when I’m not I’m just having fun lol
@southern-psu-fan I don’t give a shit about his record at Vandy and my point that you totally missed was that he obviously has a major influence oin the OC because his offense at that college was doing the same stupid things they do at PSU
@mtnittanylion you nailed it! James is working on his legacy.
When I first entered the military, I was told that receiving personal gain from actions was acceptable as long as personal gain was NOT the primary reason for my actions. I feel that “personal gain” is and has been the primary motivator for James.
@roaminglion yes he’s had 5 OC’s but 2 of ‘em left to be HC’s one was let go during the sanctions and Rocco was let go because James Franklin thought Mike
Yurcich would be better and at the time you loved the move and it’s been a good move because we’ve had very good seasons under him just not good enough to beat Ohio St and Michigan.
@southern-psu-fan Nah, we don't think you're a smart ass. We just think you're a champion for being devil's advocate....like the Pats being last in the AFC even w/ the great Bellycheat at the helm. ; )
Problem with the O us that it was basically putrid against the two top teams we played, and against inferior teams didn’t exactly shut the lights off. And if it weren’t for the D, the top two would gave crushed us. Fir whatever reason, JF has been plagued by scratch your head boneheaded decisions and at times looked totally lost for a HC in his astute self, and fir whatever other reason, some folks can’t accept that he may very well have reached his peak at PSU, and for benefits sake, let’s pretend he could move on and actually win a Championship at a different school e.g. Saban, Kirby, Myers. Just a random comment over a cup of Joe and hypothetical musing.
Would you stop mentioning last year's team? I don't care about the 2022 season, that isn't this year's offense. Utah means nothing when talking about this year's team. Our QB is gone, and the top 2 WR's are gone. Stop. Also, we beat Auburn once with BO Nix... he transferred before the 2nd game. Auburn was terrible both years so who cares? Why are you talking about 2-3 years ago? WTF?@roaminglion the offense doesn’t suck it’s just not good enough to beat Michigan and Ohio St we can beat everybody else in the big 10. We also beat the PAC champs Utah when they knocked off USC 2 times with possibly the best QB in the country. We are 72 in total offense. That's not good. Your argument that we are "good enough to beat all but 2 teams" with this offense is not a good one. Guess who else is 8-2? Iowa. Is their offense good? Because.... "They are good enough under Brian Ferentz to win all but 2 games".
Stop. Just stop. You are pulling thing out of your butt and playing mental gymnastics to try and fit the narrative in your head. You're talking about last year's bowl game, games from 2 or 3 years ago, and wins over Indiana and Northwestern like it means our offense is good. FFS.
Our offense is below average, it just is
@roaminglion I didn’t say 2 teams, I said 4 teams. You’re forgetting I was the one concerned about beating Michigan and Ohio St because I didn’t like the QB position. This season has gone exactly like I thought it would.
@roaminglion so what you’re saying is Bo Nix transferred from a bad Auburn team because he wasn’t good enough to playa and goes to Oregon and he’s a threat to win the heisman lol That’s how bad the PAC defenses are.
@roaminglion I didn’t say 2 teams, I said 4 teams. You’re forgetting I was the one concerned about beating Michigan and Ohio St because I didn’t like the QB position. This season has gone exactly like I thought it would.
If it’s gone exactly like you thought it would why did you predict 11-1 and a playoff berth ?
I’m going with 11-2 as of today but if the QB is as good as we believe he will be we’ll make the playoffs.
wrong guy homer. I said if the QB is good as we think. He hasn’t been. I took your word on how good he was.
I really thought we would win at least one of the games against Mich or Ohio State. And after blowing Iowa out of the stadium, I thought for sure Allar would progress to a level that would possibly help us win BOTH games. Call me crazy, but I don't think either Mich or Ohio State are top 5 teams. Both games were winnable for Penn State and I firmly believe it came down to coaching and play calling. Somebody is responsible for Allar not progressing over 10 games and somebody ( probably OC ) is responsible for not designing plays that would keep Allar calm and yet keep the Offense moving the ball. They didn't need big chunk plays to win either of those games. They just needed to move ball and keep the defense off the field.....and I think Penn State had/has enough talent to do so if the right game plan/play calling was in place.
And this firing MY before season end was simply JF diverting the blame from him to somebody else.....and to try and keep the fan base and those above him off his back. This doesn't working working for me, I read right through that little play just like every Saturday! He got a good taste of what the HOT SEAT just might feel like after the Michigan loss. And unfortunately for him, he DOESN'T have the legacy that JOEPA had to brush it off.
I have read most of the posts from you all, and I think we are saying/thinking a lot the same things. I still believe Penn State has a very good team, maybe not quite the talent on Offense we would like to have, but enough talent that they could have won at least one those games that they loss.
I just hope they bring on the right person this time as the OC and JF stays clear. Let him recruit, BS the fans as needed, but stay out of the way now!
GO STATE!
@southern-psu-fan no I’ve definitely got the right guy. The guy that talks out both sides of his mouth and predicted 11-1 and a playoff berth right before the season started. Also the same guy that said Allar is the future #1 draft pick.
So now it’s a QB issue and not a coaching issue ?
You’ve stated so many different opinions on the subject that of course at least one of them will be right ! Lol.
@psujoe I’m not going to turn my back on him because he didn’t beat Michigan and Ohio St. He’ll be okay just needs to build a little confidence and settle down starting this week against Rutgers.
