This guy, Tom VanHaaren thinks Penn State doesn't have a starting running back.

" Many of the questions about Penn State coming into the season were geared around how they would replace running back Saquon Barkley and some of the production at receiver. It has been a running back-by-committee process so far, but DeAndre Thompkins stepped up in the pass game with 101 yards and one touchdown in the game against Kent State. "

Then you have good ol' Heather Dinich who already has the Ohio State hype machine going full blast.  During her over 6,000 letter climax of characters gushing over Ohio State all she could muster about Penn State was one measly sentence.

Penn State needed overtime to beat Appalachian State in its opener, but is still 3-0 and looking amazing! -- against nobody.

I guess there is no reason to play the game in two weeks. It is Ohio States world, we are all just living in it

I believe it’s very possible for the big 10 champ to have 2 losses again this year. If so I guess the scam committee will have to send 2 SEC teams again.

I stay away from that network as much as possible and only watch it when PSU is on but ome of their articles sometimes slip into my news feed and I accidentally read them. Wish there was a filter in my network settings that could block them completely.

The scam is already taking shape, LSU moves up 6 spots for beating Auburn. The scam as I see it is there will be 2 (maybe 3) SEC teams, Notre Dame, Clemson or Sooners. Big Ten will be left out of it all. Notre Dame sure has not been overly impressive, nor Clemson for that matter. But we are seeing it being set up after 3 weeks into the schedules.

You think? I dunno, I gotta think even a 1 loss Ohio State team that wins the Big 10 championship is a shoo in. It’s been that kind of year for OSU with the Urban Meyer thing and all. Other than that I think you are right about multiple SEC teams in, probably 2 though.

Get with the program sky, Auburn has dropped 3 of the last 5 games they’ve played going back to last year and AP still has them ranked ahead of us in the top 10. This whole AP and coaching thing along with the CFP scam committee is a joke, let it be played on the field. Conference champions only in the playoffs, we have 5 power conferences take 4 that leaves one sitting at home but that will make it fun.

If we beat Ohio State in two weeks we don't have to worry about it. We will shoot up the rankings probably to #4 or #5.

The scam isn't LSU moving up but Auburn not dropping out of the top 10...The scam the SEC has going is no matter how many times they lose it doesn't cost em many slots in the polls...ESPN has this thing all sewn up as far as their propaganda campaign to ensure the SEC gets all of the hype they can milk out of em...But then again when you are in bed with a conference like they are objectivity and honesty are thrown out the window because hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising revenue is at stake so you best believe they are going to promote the league they are in business with...

These polls have always been a scam...What really turns this thing into a perverse farce is my personal favorite "the eyeball test"...In other words losing key games doesn't matter because a bunch of empty suits decide that a particular team (usually one that they have shamelessly promoted all season ad nauseum) is better than the team that beat them and because they look better should be in instead of a team that won their conference...Of course it doesn't hurt that the teams they usually put in due to the "eyeball test" happen to be from the conference in which the major network has a financial interest in...Frankly the whole thing insulting to our intelligence...They can try to sell this bullshit as hamburgers but the bottom line is the bullshit still stinks and only the fools are buying it...My question is how many losses will it take for them to leave Alabama out of this thing...Obviously one loss and not playing in their conference championship wasn't enough to leave out a conference champion or an undefeated team...If they lose 2 do you think they still get a bid? The whole thing is a joke....

Exactly FD. Auburn has dropped the last 3 of 5 games going back to last year. How many games do they get to lose without being punished in the polls?

Your argument is dead and buried Funeral Man. The only poll that counts is the final poll. If PSU wins every game this season, then we will be National Champions.  All other polls are silly.

Actually Sky you underestimate the power of these polls to be used as a propaganda machine to justify the nonsense that goes on in determining who is in and who is out of this so called playoff for the national title...As a former athlete it disturbs me greatly that the games really don't matter...When you have a team that doesn't even qualify to play in their own conference championship game being included in playoff for a national championship instead of a conference champion it immediately becomes a beauty pageant instead of a sporting event...When you keep 2 conference champions and an undefeated team out of a national championship playoff to include a 2nd team from a weak conference (and yes the SEC was no better than the 3rd best conference in the country last year) to me that playoff loses all credibility and becomes a farce...So don't discount the current polls and their influence in determining the narrative to determine who is in and who is out of the playoff...Yes if Penn State wins all of their games they will be in the playoff but I honestly believe one loss and they are out and that is even if they win the conference championship...I am convinced they will come up with some cock and bull story to put a 1 loss Alabama or 1 loss Georgia in the playoff over a 1 loss conference champion...As a matter of fact I think Alabama could lose 2 games and they would come up with an excuse to include them in the playoff...I still can't get over this "eyeball test" bullshit..."eyeball tests" are for beauty contests not athletic events...Sports are settled on the field, court or ice and you keep score and somebody wins and somebody loses and even if your "beauty pageant" winner loses they shouldn't get a free pass into a playoff over conference champions...Once you start doing that you make the actual games meaningless and they are on the verge of making these games meaningless...

Whatever you say Funeral Man. I think you put waaaaaaaaaay too much time thinking about this stuff. For sure, you are one of the longest posters ever. Anyway, I’m staying with my mantra that games matter more than polls!

Well Sky it is obvious to me that you put as much if not more time into than I do as you manage to keep responding...LOL...I agree with you that games should matter more than the polls do but obviously that hasn't been the case so far in selecting the teams for this so called National Championship Playoff...Excluding conference champions with teams that didn't even qualify for their own conference championship game nullifies the importance of winning your conference championship and turns the whole process into the farce that it has become...Instead of games being the deciding factor we now have "eyeball tests" determining who is in and who is out...So it really isn't a National Championship Playoff but a National Champion Pageant...

8 teams make the playoff:

5 Power Conference champions, 1 "best" Group of 5 champion, 2 wild card entries.

This settles any argument, other than ridiculous ones that aren't important anyway like the 2nd best group of 5 team crying that they were left out or the 3rd best wild card team being left out.

Neither of those two arguments are as bad as it is now... having one or two Power 5 champions left out.

8 teams is a lot but when you consider that big time college football diminishes the importance of education, the extra games will work.

There is really paranoia, and some conspiracy theorists here...First of all, the polls decide nothing, the games do..I think the CFP Committee does an excellent job of identifying the 4 teams, of course there will be debate/arguing, there is in  basketball where they pick 68 teams..I think right now, Alabama and OSU are clearly the best 2 teams in college football, I expect them to meet for the title..I really don't see a close 3rd..

Regarding the polls, the writers, AP Poll, do an excellent job..Ignore the coaches poll, too many hidden agendas..And IM of the opinion  the polls do NOTHING to set up teams for the playoffs, and even if they attempted that, they would be ignored..Other than nitpicking, I think the writers come very close to getting it right..

Pipe you really are a beauty...You do realize that in every division in NCAA Football the playoffs have 16 teams to determine who the national champion is...If every other division in NCAA Football can do a 16 team playoff I see no reason why this one can't....

No paranoia here CT, I want conference champs in the playoffs and get opinions out of the way and let it be decided on the field. I don’t have a problem with a conference champion getting left out as long as there is 4 conference champions settling it on the field.let us argue about which conference champ gets left out, that’ll make it fun lol

And your point is what? Why does every other division in NCAA football have a 16 team playoff yet the the marquis division has only 4 teams in their playoff? Please fell me why other than money and control over the process... It certainly isn't about competition or crowning the best team as national champion .. The whole thing is a farce..

Actually, take all 5 power conference champs and then select 3 at large teams, either the strong teams that didn't make a CC game, or schools outside of the Power 5 - this way the only ones bitching about not getting in will be the also rans.
