Cignetti signed a new 8 year contract with IU paying him $11.5 million a year (on average).
Never realistically on the table IMO and either is Meyer or Saban even though the clickbait articles say they are.
I think Terry Smith is the man and he'll begin to show it against Iowa!

Unless there’s some secret candidate somewhere that we don’t know about (Joe Brady) I’m starting to think that Smith has a very good chance at landing the job.
If Terry Smith gets the job that means we finish this season on a high note which is a good thing. Getting a win Saturday night would be great and what a way to get something good going. IMO it’s the best thing that could happen because it means we fixed the problem.

I heard heavy rain for the game. It might be another of those famous 6-3 slugfests ! Luckily for me I won’t be watching because I’m not paying for Peacock again and there’s going to be a lot of good games on TV tomorrow night.
@psujoe I got it free when I signed a new contract with Xfinity. My bill went down and I got some free channels and that’s one I negotiated because I knew we had a few games on. We love Xfinity
I don't have Peacock so I'll be listening to Jack Ham on radio!
If Terry Smith goes 6-0 or 5-1 to end the season he should get the job. Especially if the team looks dominant against most teams.
@roaminglion I think 4 and 2 Iowa and Ohio State are tough games but I think if he does what he says, if you are not giving 100% you are being replaced. He did that with probably the dback against Northwestern so I would expect that to continue. Can you imagine being a freshmen or red shirt frehmen and watching the starters giving half if not less effort and not beeing given a chance? Remember what Joe did in 67 I think it was.
There’s so much talent out there, young brilliant offensive minds like Campbell, Brohm, Stein the list goes on and on, everyone on here is just ready to hand the entire operation over to Smith over 6 games with a roster that will likely be completely turned over at the end of the season. Michigan did the same exact thing with Sharron Moore and that experiment is failing. You have an opportunity to really go out and get someone you believe can bring a national championship and you guys wants a guy who’s been sitting around the Lasch Building for 15 years. Smith isn’t Ryan Day and we don’t have OSUs roster continuity, be careful what you wish for but hey 6 games should be enough to completely risk your entire program on.
I couldn't agree more Kularrow...I go outside the program and bring in the best guy for this program...This is one of the premier programs in College Football and they will have the pick of the litter...I am sure the powers at be and the money guys have a short list of who they are looking at...It is incumbent upon them to make the right call here...I stand by what I said...This is the most important coaching hire in 60 years at that University...They need to choose well...This hire MUST be a grand slam...
If Smith goes 6-1 these next 7 games with what’s gone down the past week this man can coach and get the team ready to play.
@the-funeral-director we’ve gone outside the program the last 2 coaches and I’m all for doing that again but let’s give smith a chance is all I’m saying.
My #1 concern is can Smith retain some of these recruits? I think it is time for a fresh start...
@the-funeral-director Winning solves 99.99999999999% of all problems in sports. 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
Agreed, buddy. If he not only wins, but has the team playing up to their potential, I believe he deserves a shot. Just don't give him a long term contract, lol! If he doesn't work out next year, maybe Cignetti will be available.
We are going to find out a lot tonight...I read an interesting piece where Ole Cousin Urban thinks there was a problem internally with one or 2 of the assistant coaches creating internal strife amongst the players...He stated that he was all but sure one or 2 of the assistant coaches created a cancer within the program...It was an interesting take and you all know how I feel about that pervert but I think there may be some merit to what he had to say in that article...Tonight is going to be a very interesting evening...
@rip I don’t believe they want Cignetti. I’m hoping for Brohm If smith doesn’t get it done. Looks like Coach Key ain’t on their radar but that’s good for Tech
Oh they wanted Cignetti and that is why Indiana paid him and extended him...That was a proactive move...I will say that Brohm impressed me last night...They went into Miami and handled them...Brohm can coach and I would certainly have a conversation with him...He can beat the big boys...
I really hope Manny D is on the list of those being considered. Brohm should also be on the list. Ruhle .......... not so much.
Nothing like the Michigan situation, where Harbaugh was still the coach. He was just on probation and left after they won the NC. They handed Moore the job before even seeing what he could do without Harbaugh. He merely "filled in" but was never in charge. There’s so much talent out there, young brilliant offensive minds like Campbell, Brohm, Stein the list goes on and on, everyone on here is just ready to hand the entire operation over to Smith over 6 games with a roster that will likely be completely turned over at the end of the season. @roaminglion Right there’s no similarities in hiring a coach that’s been on a staff 5 years vs one that’s been on a staff for 15 years. Yes let’s see what a guy we’ve known for 15 years “can do” because in 6 games all the important questions will be answered like his ability to recruit, manage NIL, transfer portal, Coordinators, assistants, offensive and defensive schemes, dealing with the media/boosters etc. Do you really believe Kraft would go out of his way to fire Franklin just to hire a long term assistant coach? If Kraft himself wants a fast track to being fired I guess that’s logical.
My question regarding Smith besides all the questions Roam and Kularrow have presented is how much different than Franklin is he going to be? I guess we are going to find out his game preparation and in game adjustment ability or lack thereof tonight...

Smith is one of the best recruiters on the staff and PSU should fight to keep him regardless of his position.
