I've seen numerous articles on PennLive and elsewhere touting the fact that our new HC is changing the "culture" in our football program. Can anyone explain to me what was our old "culture", what was wrong with it, what the new "culture" is and how it is better? I'm serious. Not being critical, just would like to understand what the big deal is, lol!
Going to take a stab at it, may be completely off base; but thinking along the lines of competition for playing time vs playing favorites? Moving on from the way Franklin ran things?
Plenty of articles out there, beyond Pennlive
Thanks, BT If it means moving on from how Franklin did things, I'm all for it. I thought Terry already did that when he turned the season around last year though. Could it be a return to old school Penn State "culture" as established by JoePA - no nonsense, "Black Shoes - Basic Blues - No Names - All Game" attitude? I just hope it's not more coach-speak like Jimmy's "complementary football", etc, etc.
Under new football coach Matt Campbell, Penn State is implementing a stricter, accountability-focused culture for 2026. A key initiative includes a team points system where the weekly losing team faces punishments, such as cleaning and washing dishes in the facilities by 6 a.m. on Wednesdays, aiming to foster team unity and responsibility.

Accountability Measures: The culture shift involves a point system based on behavior, such as class attendance, to increase team accountability.
Team Punishment: The losing team of the week must come into the football facilities early on Wednesdays to clean and do chores, specifically mentioned as washing dishes.
Community & Team Building: Besides cleaning, the team is becoming more involved in community service and NIL-driven initiatives to foster a closer-knit, hardworking environment.

Sorry, I don't see this as punishment. I was doing chores in 8th grade, washing dishes, cleaning, washing my own clothes, cutting grass....
@jimmy-v I don’t remember not having to clean out the gutters and cutting grass. Man don’t work, man don’t eat is what the Bible says. Healthy men of course.
@rip I believe MC is the perfect fit at Penn St. He believes in the Penn St way work hard and do your best and things will have a good ending.
