The renovations planned ahead will likely result in fewer seats but a more comfortable experience for the fans.
The exterior of the stadium looks like an erector set. Many of the stadiums around the country are charming and inviting from the outside. Should PSU enhance the stadium’s exterior beauty as part of the scheduled upgrade?
Yeah, I think they absolutely should. Use Kyle Field as a template, or what they did over in South Bend. Thos schools didn't just improve the facade, but integrated classrooms and meeting spaces into the stadiums as well.
They were able to vastly improve the buildings while also making it more multiuse.
McLane stadium in Waco (Baylor) is great. 45K capacity horse shoe opening onto the Brazos River.
90 minute tours are available every week or so for $10.
Private dining club on site.
Had to take my sister-in-law up to see Magnolia during my brother's visit last year.

How was it at Magnolia? Is it just like, boring or is it worth it to see what they have going on over at the Fixer Upper?
And that stadium is just super nice lookin'
I think the stadium looks great just the way it is. Why spend big bucks to make the outside look like it is not a stadium. Maybe I like it because I loved playing with my erector set when I was a kid.
I don't think Beaver Stadium is getting a face-lift anytime soon anyway, maybe somewhere around 2025 at the earliest? I think there are some other facilities that have priority under the current upgrade plan, specifically the "Center of Excellence" and McCoy Natatorium replacement/renovation.
I've read that those two projects are a main focus right now, and McCoy is something they've been trying to get done for around 15 years now. I'd bet they want to put McCoy to bed before thinking of Beaver Stadium... Especially since it affects not only the swim team, but the whole student body would then have a great swimming facility to use.
I like the way The “Beav” looks just the way it is. What matters is what the stadium does inside.
Kind of like my lady. Maybe not the most beautiful to look at but I love what's on the inside.

I don’t mind the outside look, but the usefulness of the inside needs some major attention. I waited in line for the men’s room with my kids for the entire length of halftime because it was poorly arranged next to the food and both lines intertwined and nobody moved in either line. We waited so long, we got out of line walked down the ramps and used the men’s room on the ground level. I took them back to the seats, then went and got the food we were supposed to get on the original trip. It was frustrating to waste that much time and miss the beginning of the second half because of it.
Personally, I don't think the exterior should be touched. It's classic and simply understated, similar to our basic uniforms. It sets us apart from the bells and whistles crowd. When you see Beaver stadium, you are reminded of the history and glory surrounding Penn State football. I agree, the interior amenities need some upgrading, but please leave the exterior alone. I won't get into the naming and statue issues as the haters would go ballistic. Those issues will eventually take care of themselves.
The only renovation work needed to be done is putting the damn Joe Paterno Statue back up where it belongs!!!
GO JOE!!
Amen brother!
Always options to add back seats , lost space. Extend nosebleed sections
One of the main reasons the outside would be finished off is that it allows them to majorly address the inside. By putting a facade around the entire thing, they can extend the inside space from the current edge of the stadium to wherever they want to make the new facade. This would vastly improve the fan wait times and experience by allowing them to address issues like bathroom space, walkway space, more food options, etc. etc. etc.
I think they also want to change the field a bit, make it soccer ready to bring in FIFA games like Real Madrid vs. Manchester United. They've also mentioned bringing the NHL classic to the stadium as well. It's a lot more that just making the outside look nice and putting some chairs in

Just a little friendly advice...don't use that line to sweet-talk your lady.
Roam,
Magnolia was OK nothing great (I didn't watch the TV show until later). The staff were well trained and very personable.
Other highlights in Waco: Texas Ranger Museum (great for gun lovers), pre-historic dinosaur site and of course Capt Billy Wizbang's Wizz Pigg burger joint!

I understand what you're saying, but as a traditionalist, I assumed we were talking about keeping it a classic, college football stadium only. If it's going to be a multi purpose, professional athletic venue, bring in the artificial turf & retractable dome! Maybe we can apply for a casino license and offer sports betting along the mezzanine complex.
You got that right lake...winning makes everything look good lol

I sat through a presentation a couple of years ago when they talked about the plan for Beaver Stadium. I had concerns that I voiced that major seating decisions were being made during a downturn for the program. Let's face it, a few years ago it was not hard to get seats to a Penn State Football game. Fast forward a few years and they have broken the attendance record for a game two years in a row.
If they think just making the stadium more comfortable will improve the fan experience then they are fooling themselves. I point out to you Yankee Stadium. They took an old uncomfortable stadium and turned it into a luxury hotel and yet the seats still sat empty until the team started to win again. And now it has become unaffordable for the average fan so seats sit empty. Heck, if luxury was all it took to fill a stadium then Pitt would never have the number of empty seats they do.
Penn State has the best gameday experience of any stadium or sport I have ever attended. Sure, the seats hurt your backside after a while but I can deal with it for a few hours. If they can find a way to give a little more legroom while keeping it the second largest stadium I am all for it, but I in no way support making it smaller.
As for the outside, during the presentation they talked about the need for that was more than just for aesthetics. The erector set feel lets all the plumbing exposed so it takes a lot of work and money to winterize the stadium every year. By adding a facade it will allow them to use the stadium all year. Think NHL games, Penguins vs Flyers at Beaver Stadium.
Anyway, if you have not seen it here is what the proposed new outside would look like. Notice they do plan to expand the upper deck which I think would help them from eliminating seats.

Do you think Sandy can handle it?
More leg room would be nice, a little more shoulder room would be better. Granted, I'm not the 170 lbs I was when I graduated, but throw a thick coat on the width of my shoulders and I have to sit sideways all game. I'm far from the widest person in the stands!
As an annual visitor to Notre Dame Stadium..and very much a traditionalist myself, I had the same fears when I read about the $400 million expansion/renovation of ND Stadium..Those fears were quickly allayed when I stepped into the finished product..It is a magnificent edifice, adding 750,000 square footage of teaching , research and performance space, three buildings ..and most importantly WITHOUT sacrificing one iota of the college game day atmosphere..It retained all the trappings and atmosphere, of watching a game in ND Stadium...which to me is second to none..
And. maybe best of all for fans, I welcomed it, it widened the seats of the original 1930 stadium, adding necessary comfort..
