I found this very interesting...Curt Cignetti just signed a 90+ million contract...HOWEVER his buyout is 15 million if he leaves before November 2026...So he really is still in play from a buyout standpoint...This contract isn't as iron clad as I first thought...I would have thought his buyout would have been so prohibitive that he would have been out of play for at least 3 or 4 years but that certainly isn't the case by this buyout figure...Is he really out of the equation?

Imo, it’s a, I have a new contract i.e. base salary, that now establishes the numbers going forward if someone wants to play ball.
I think he is committed to Indiana, but there are more interesting places to hang hang your hat depending on what stage of life you are in and your goals.
His m.o. fits getting it done to the level that is reasonable and then moving on.

To me I still believe Penn State will make a big play for him because he is the guy in my opinion that makes the most sense for the program and this also allows Indiana to save face that they made a move to keep him when he goes...Cignetti just set the market for himself for any future contracts...This is quite interesting...

Isn’t Cig something like 63 years old?? I always thought if we did hire him it wouldn’t be a long term hire and would just be a hire for winning now and getting us to that next step. When he’s ready to retire in 6 or 7 years it would then be time to plug in one os his assistants to then continue the success he achieved.

Yep a 5 to 7 year deal which is a looooooong time in todays college football coaching business...He would be the perfect candidate to take over this program and if I am the brain trust and money people at Penn State I would make him an offer that he couldn't refuse to bring him in...I am a believer in going big or going home...When you half ass something that is what you get...half assed...Just my humble opinion...

It would be interesting to know how much Indiana would owe Cignetti if he were fired.  I'm surprised that the people at Penn State who gave Franklin the unnecessary and excessive extension did not protect the university.

That dude ain’t coming to Penn St and I don’t believe they wanted him or they would’ve jumped on him before firing Franklin. They already know who they want.

Don't be surprised Southern...The more I look at the language of this contract the more I believe he is gonna end up at Penn State...

I’m afraid it’s going to be Rhule because I read an article earlier today that said there is a powerful group of boosters that are pushing for his hire. It was a new article posted yesterday or today and I’d post a link but can’t find the article now.

@psujoe you probably right homer and I’ll get behind whoever they hire. I really believe Diaz has a chance to be an elite HC we already know he’s an elite DC he just needs the right team and Penn St is that team. Miami isn’t what it was in the 80’s and 90’s so I’m not going to judge Manny on what happened down there heck Sark and Kiffin both were disasters at UCS and look at ‘em now and both were elite OC at Alabama. I believe Diaz just needs another chance.

I saw that article too and asked my grandfather if he had been contacted about it.  I know its a small sample size but he's in contact with several hundred PSU significant donors(i call it the geritol club) to the football program.  His is one of many small factions of donors across the country and to his knowledge, no one is pushing for Rhule. In fact, his band of merry-men is hopeful that Joe Brady gets the nod.

Brady actually makes good sense in today’s climate. He would come in, pull it together, knock off several big wins and a potential championship with the right recruiting, and then bolt for the NFL within 3-5 years unless he realises that he is the man in college ball.   By then he is financially set for life and that becomes one less stressor to deal with.

My bet is it is a 3 man race...Cignettie, Brady and Brohm in that order too...

In My top choices change almost daily but my top choices are still Brady, Brohm and Stein. Rhule and Diaz wouldn’t even be in my top ten.

@the-funeral-director

whoever it is, I think they already have a tacit agreement and are only waiting for the proper moment to announce.

@the-funeral-director  I hope it’s one of the 3 here and not the OC from Ohio St. he’d probably keep Jim Knowles and this dude has been a disaster for our defense.

I am with Brownale on this one...I think they already have an agreement in principle with whoever their target candidate is...I honestly think it is either Cignetti or Brady at this point and after researching the Cignetti agreement more in depth I actually think it might be him...
