Topic starter

Hopefully he turns out as good as the last one that picked us over Rutgers.

Can't be missing on OLmen.  Especially 3* slobber-knockers, LOL.

So we got a commit in a strong possition and lost one in a weak position?

Not a win unless the receiver is 6'6" with a 30" vertical so the QB can just throw rainbows to him before he gets sacked?

@underlion  I don’t believe we’re weak at the OL position by looking at the recruiting rankings and the stars of the guys we have on the team at the OL position. The problem imo is all the coaches wasn’t on the same page. New OL coach, new OC and James Franklin more worried about contract’s and stadium upgrades was the reason for the last 2 years. It was right in front of us, it wasn’t hard to see. We’ve recruited great and we’ve hired good coaches but all of ‘em weren’t on the same page and that’s why we’ve gone 11-11 the last 2 years. When you’re losing and frustrated it’s hard to see what’s right in front of you. The competition is to close in big dawg football to have distractions and if you don’t believe me look at the last 2 years at Penn State

How does stadium renovations and project proposals influence the success and record under JF?

@blushoes renovations and contract negotiation is the CEO part of it and when he’s spending more time messing with that crap his coaching skills go from being one of the best to chit. Penn State needs to get another CEO and let James Franklin coach and Penn St will win a lot of football games. If they don’t they’ll be looking for another coach and CEO

I highly doubt that a HFC would oversee construction projects at a major college football university.  In fact that sounds silly. Who fed you this information.  Guess we are in for a long season then.

@blushoes  I never said he was going to oversee anything. Contracts and stadium renovations should be done in the off-season. I also never said we’re in for a long season because I believe we’ll win 11 or more games

Ahhh, ok. You mentioned he's more worried about contract’s and stadium upgrades. A HFC shouldn't partake in or be concerned about any renovation or project upgrades.  The HFC has one job and that's to coach a football program.

Southern, I still say James can spend all the time he wants on CEO things as long as he butts out of coaching and lets his coordinators and other coaches do what they were hired to do....COACH!

Every coach has distractions, elite coaches aren't bothered by contract negotiations or building facilities.

@roaminglion  I believe you can be an elite head coach if coaching is all you want to do and let other people handle other off field issues.

Yes, let's keep JF on the field so he can concentrate.  We had enough of Franklin walking around campus with a hammer and measuring tape. Let him give that hard hat to someone else ! He really needs to oversee the football program instead of printing architecture blueprints!

@roaminglion I also remember you saying saying all the contact negotiation and upgrades to the facilities should be done in the off season and not during the season. I remember that because I agreed with you.

My point was elite coaches can handle distractions and still have success, they don't need everything around them to be perfect.

What makes someone an elite coach is winning when it's hard, not when there's no distractions.

As long as we get back to winning 11 or 12 games having a shot to get in the playoffs I could care less if anybody considers him elite. Heck these folks talking elite crap every year don’t consider Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden elite. They even think Tom Osborne was better than Barry Switzer so how can you take ‘em seriously. I still can’t get over that one lol

@southern-psu-fan My point is until I see us sniffing the playoffs I'm not going to act like we're just back to 11 wins because he has a contract extension.

@roaminglion   I agree Roam about the contract extension because he didn’t deserve it. I do believe we’ll sniff the playoffs this year because we have the players it’s just getting all the coaches on the same page which is what I’m hoping for this year. James Franklin has been in much worse positions and he found a way so I’m pretty confident he’ll get this team back on track. We were a good football team last year we just couldn’t put it together on the field. We had way to many guys go on to the NFL to lose 5 games.

@southern-psu-fan I just want him to get back to letting his OC do what he feels is best. Scheme around the players you have, not try and pigeonhole the players into a scheme you want to run.

I'm sick and tired of hearing him talking about establishing the run, only to see us get stuffed time and time again putting Clifford in yet another 3rd and long situation.

If we can run, then yeah do it. But why did you hire this OC just to tell him to run the ball when the players we have on offense are so obviously geared towards passing? It was so damn frustrating seeing our OC this past year looking almost pissed off because he was obviously being told to keep trying to run the ball.

@roaminglion  absolutely! You know me roam, just do whatever works and get out with a win. I honestly believe we’re going to have a great year. Clifford can Win 11 games we’ve watched him do it. Get out of the dang way and let the offense go and good things will happen.

I couldn't agree more with you guys.  That's why I posted earlier in this thread, "James can spend all the time he wants on CEO things as long as he butts out of coaching and lets his coordinators and other coaches do what they were hired to do....COACH!".
