NLI.
I believe that James Franklin views "NLI" (name, likeness and image) as something that will change college recruiting dramatically. Top recruits will not only want to go to a good football school but also to one where NLI can be used effectively. I believe Franklin views USC as being advantaged for NLI because of the big entertainment industry located in Southern California. A possible advantage for recruits as well as a personal advantage for Franklin and his staff to cash in. Just my personal opinion.
So given this, I suspect Franklin would entertain a possible move to USC.
I'm going out on the limb with this prediction....and my fellow NITS have the chainsaw. If we beat Auburn tonight, he stays. If we lose to Auburn, he goes. Either way, eventually we'll see if I was right, or as usual, all wet, lmao!
Win or Lose tonight he stays...He ain't going to USC...NO chance...
No doubt NIL will impact recruiting. OP makes a valid point. Although USC has the benefit of being located in a major urban area, schools like ND & PSU have a huge and loyal alumni. It will be interesting observing how things evolve.
College is a national game, and no matter where you are located people see the players. Quite simply, a kid in Tuscaloosa can make more than a kid in LA. Because people know and watch Alabama.
IMO USC and the PAC 12 may be at a disadvantage, due to the TV ratings. People know and watch east coast teams more. At least that is how it has been lately.
Players at USC are also paying a lot more in taxes on whatever they make.
Why are taxes so high in California? I believe everybody that earns a dollar should pay taxes so I’m not being a smartbutt when I ask I’ve just heard taxes are really high out there?
Why are taxes so high in California?
Not just Cali, but Los Angeles too. 13% to California and another 8% to LA.
If they have the same contract in State College, PA they pay only 3% extra in income tax (on top of federal) instead of 21%
That's a lot.
You know, I honestly don't give a crap. Coaches come and coaches go. Players come and players go. Nothing I can control or have input too, so it's of no concern to me. However, to think that a coach is loyal to a school is ignorant and WAYYYYY outdated. There isn't going to be another Paterno, Bear or Knute. Those days are in the past much like hauling ice to the icebox or lighting oil lamps to see in the dark.
This is a business, plain and simple! If a man can maneuver through the business to give his family a great financially secure life, all the power to him! Why would anyone in their right mind think that a successful talented individual would pass up an opportunity to provide the best living he can for his family?????
If he stays great! I like him as a coach and think he is good for Penn State. if he goes great don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!! Either way, the sun is going to come up tomorrow and set tomorrow evening. I have learned over the last year or so that there are way more important things in life to worry about!! Like hoping I wake up to see that sunrise!!
Just my opinion. Blast away if you feel it necessary.
I agree with you 100% Navy...There is no loyalty anymore...These guys all go where the money is...I just don't think USC is an upgrade over the job he has...If he gets a shot at what he perceives to be an upgrade he will go...I just don't don't think for him and his best interest this is the time for him to jump ship and that isn't the opportunity that will lure him to jump ship...
He's been here 8 years and had several opportunities to leave. Personally I'd say hes earned a little bit of a benefit of the doubt regarding loyalty
Two things here:
1) If JF goes for it on 4th and 1 again and runs the plays he did Saturday night.......USC can have him (and Yurcich) as a package deal!!!
2) I think this was well written! I am not a 100% sure we will not see another legend at a power 5 program, but with all of the big money being paid, there is NO reason for any of them to stick around 20 years or so. I don't know why JF would leave PSU for USC, but I can definitely see him wanting one chance with a Pro Team before he calls it the day....unless USC would be THAT stepping stone. But then I ask, how many Pro Coaches went through USC first?
GO STATE!
