@southern-psu-fan You’ve already preached to us that if a team sucks today or sucked last year or ten years ago they can’t win tomorrow so give it up because GT will suck forever just like they always have.
You really need to get back to concentrating on basketball.

This past season, SMU entered the ACC championship game as the regular-season champion but lost to Clemson in the ACC title game and had to sweat it out before selection day before earning a spot in the 12-team field.

Phillips said the ACC could consider giving its regular-season champion a bye, and have the teams that finish second or third in the league standings play in the ACC championship game.

What did y’all think about this? The FD might be right looking at what the ACC might do. Have the conference champs like we did in the 80’s but take the top 2  in each conference which gives top 8 then fill in 8 of the top ranked teams.

@southern-psu-fan Doesn’t matter how many automatic bids you have as the issue will always be filling the final at large bids and the entitled schools who think they’re should should be in over more deserving schools.

The teams that don’t make it in need to learn to accept it and keep their big southern mouths up.

I disagree, there is no reason to put in a team that lost it's conference. I don't want automatic entries for teams that didn't win.

My personal opinion is the less subjectivity the better...You know going in if you are in a power 4 conference if you get to your conference title game your in the playoff...You put in one of the group of 5 and 3 at large which a committee can pick or base it on rankings...My personal opinion is there shouldn't be more than 3 teams from any conference in a playoff...I held the same view from the previous system...Why are we relitigating the regular season? You played in your conference and couldn't finish higher than 4th? Why should you be in a 12 team playoff?

Well you are being more subjective by codifying that a P4 runner up is automatically better than other conference champions.

I don't want Iowa State automatically getting in ahead of better teams just because they got blown out by Arizona State in the championship game. No team that loses 45-19 deserves an auto bid

@the-funeral-director If no more than 3 get in from a conference which of the 4 from the B1G would have been left out this season? And who would have been in their place? Where would OSU have been? Were they technically in third or 4th place in the B1G?

The truth is if you go by the regular season OSU woulda been out...Define a better team than Iowa State? I personally would prefer a conference runner up getting in as opposed to a team with 3 losses and with one of them to a .500 team...The truth is you can go round and round with this stuff...Does the regular season matter? Do conference games matter? Should a 10-2 team get in that loses it's conference championship get left out for a 3 loss team from what is "perceived" to be a better conference when that team has 2 bad losses...The simple answer is YES from my standpoint...The 4 conference champions along with the 4 conference runner ups deserve to be in...I believe a team from the group of 5 deserves a slot as well...That leaves you with 3 at large teams to get in...The bottom line is simple...Either you believe the regular season should matter and if you don't then scrap it all...Go back to the farce where you rank teams based on the brand name on the uniform...This is what they want...They want to have the top 12 ranked teams in the playoff and seed em that way...Guess what conference that is going to favor?...I wanna take the rankings out of it...As it is they prop up the rankings at the beginning of the season to favor one particular conference and they have used that to create a narrative and push those teams in...To me this is the fairest way to determine a national champion...

Define a better team than Iowa State?

Easy... At 12-1 after winning the AAC: Army. No, Iowa State should not get an auto bid over them. Another is Indiana, at 11-1 would be out in your system to a team that was destroyed in the conference title game... All because Indiana lost a tie-breaker? I thought 2 loss teams had to get in the back of the line, but now you're saying a 3 loss team gets in ahead of 1 loss teams?
