McKinsey & Co.'s Mobility Consumer Pulse for 2024, released this month, found that 46% of EV owners in the U.S. said they were "very" likely to switch back to owning a gas-powered vehicle in their next purchase.

I know what I need the next time I buy a car and I still plan on buying a hybrid SUV but these numbers don’t lie. I just want the government to stay out of the way and stop letting these rich white privileged progressives push the all electric crap down our throats because it has a bad ending for all of us. They’re coming after the gas stove and the AC units now. There’s more of all us but these people do have a lot of power and they’re getting their way. BTW I’m all electric at my house so the idiots have me but it was by my choice when I had my house built. I even have an electric weed eater and 2 electric bikes 😂

I take the word idiots back because these people are actually very smart they’re just a little delusional on what it’s like in the real world and not the little bubble they live in. My bad

lol It's the government shoving these EVs down our throats. The idiots in Albany are trying to make the schools switch over to electric busses by 2035. Trouble is they don't have the ability to cover all the miles for the rural schools, the busses are way more expensive. The school districts don't have the millions of $ to put in chargers. Power companies will have to string bigger wire.  Even the elite progressives voted down the local, city school budget, that was trying to buy a couple electric busses. Too much $$$$ Granted, it's probably inevitable, but let's loosen up the time line a little and allow for the transition.

I'm not sure what country y'all are living in. No one has been shoving any electric vehicles down my throat. Now, there have been lots of articles about that but not enough to get all upset about. As Frankie Goes To Hollywood said: RELAX.

You forgot to mention in that same poll, the reasons they wanted to switch back were:

  • charging infrastructure (35%)
  • driving patterns on long-distance trips were affected too much due to having an EV (32%)

So just about 70% of the people saying they wanted to switch back had nothing to do with the car itself, but the lack of charging spots. So the narrative that the cars suck, or they are shoving them down our throats isn't exactly true. Mostly, people just want more charging stations.

This is exactly why the same poll showed people polled in most other countries was 10-20% - Because they have many more available and well-regulated charging stations.

Context matters, it's more important to find out why they want to switch back. It's a new technology, of course there will be supply/demand issues as with everything.

@psugrad81 NY State, here in the good ol' U.S. of A. I guess it depends on your definition of being force fed. NY requiring all electric school busses by 2035 is a little bit too pushy for me. As of 2026, you can't build a new house in NY that has a gas furnace, range, etc. Gotta have electric. They (Hochul and friends) tried to get wood stoves banned, but ran into too much flack upstate where we have trees. I loose power here on a weekly basis. Last week it was out for 6 hrs in 93 deg heat. Not as big a problem in the summer, but in winter I at least have the ol' wood stove for back up. Until they get the lines upgraded and tree proof, electric isn't the answer. And it gets a bit chilly up here in the winter, how'd those EVs do when it got cold last winter?

The EVs do fine in the cold, it's the battery technology that has to improve. That's the one drawback of an EV, the battery. Lots of research going on, Toyota claims they will have a 700ml mile battery that charges in 10 minutes by 2027.

I'll believe that when I see it though, right now it's vaporware

@roaminglion Ok, but in my mind, the "don't do so great in the cold" batteries are part of the EV. I'm sure they'll get it figured out, but I'm not ready to buy one just yet.

The climate cult has already hit the dishwashers they ain’t worth a chit anymore and you have to buy a new one every 4 or 5 years and try and find a new one that actually dries the dishes. Mine is 10 years old and it’s pretty good but I dread having to replace it with the chit they build today thanks to the climate cult. They get us a little bit a the time 81 and they’re coming after gas stoves and the AC units next. I’m good for about 15 years because I just replaced everything and it works great but my AC man said I wouldn’t get one again this good because change is coming thanks to these people. These shitheads better hope our government doesn’t ever fall because they die first and then they’ll come after me. Maybe I need to buy a few more bullets 😂

Oh for sure, I wouldn't even recommend an EV to many people yet. The Pickups aren't there yet, because the range still needs to be better. Also for cold weather, you're right about that... The batteries lose too much range for it yet.

Hopefully Toyota wasn't blowing smoke, because it would be a total game changer. The battery they are talking about is a solid-state battery, which has much more range, charges quickly, and is much less susceptible to cold weather. At that point, if a battery like that comes to market and doesn't cost $$$$$$ - EVs would make sense for just about everyone. Only thing standing in the way at that point is the electrical grid... which is in dire need of upgrades anyway
