It has what Duke has been for the past 4 years. Elko turned that program around, not Diaz. They are good, not great. I don't want good, not great. I want elite.@roaminglion Duke is 4-3 that’s not bad for Duke and I see 4 or 5 more wins they could get gotta let the season play out. He may have been bad at Miami but so has everybody else the last 20 years. He was awesome while he was at Penn St as DC probably the best DC we’ve ever had. I’m sure he learned a lot from James Franklin on how to run a program because he’s better at Duke than he was at Miami. I just believe he fits right in and knows the good coaches to keep. I bet poindexter will be the DC if he gets the job. I’ll take any of the 4 i mentioned.
So Miami made a bunch of bad hires, and that means what exactly about Diaz? He sucked there like other people so it's olay? We'll give him a mulligan? lol
@roaminglion we’ll see but after Jim Knowles a damn sure don’t want another assistant coach from Ohio State. Since it works at Ohio State doesn’t mean it will work at Penn State we don’t get knee deep worth of talent at every position like Ohio State does and James Franklin did recruit very good. One thing I do know is our defense was elite while Manny was here as DC maybe he can carry that over to being a HC, he’s only 51
Duke has a few good football players and the QB is one of them. If Diaz does get the job the QB might come with him he’s just a redshirt sophomore. It’s something to think about, we’ve seen it happen? I honestly thought Duke outplayed GT but GT found a way to win which is always a good thing.
If you start to see Nebraska slide further it’s most likely due to their locker room already knowing Rhule is leaving. The Minnesota game was already a pretty good indicator of that, I don’t see how’s it’s not him at this point. I think this has been in motion between Kraft and Rhule for a very long time. 8-4 Rhule, what a big splash glad we could land him.
Hiring Rhule will set this program back 8 to 10 years...If they hire him it will be a huge mistake...The program needs an infusion of energy and a change...Rhule is neither...Brady, Brohm and Gruden would be the 3 folks I pursue and I am sure you can get whichever one you want...This is Penn State for God sake...Rhule, Diaz and Drinkawicz or whatever his name is don't move me...The guy from A&M would be my 4th choice...I know Homer mentioned Will Stein but he is a little green around the gills yet for my liking...I don't think he is ready quite yet...
Some coaches are just flat better as coordinators. And as Saban once said, you can be a better coach with better players. And I say thats true as long as the players fit the scheme that’s being coached. I think that’s the satiable art of an elite HC, he gets it and does it.
@the-funeral-director Matt Rhule or Manny Diaz has had the players that they’ll have at Penn State. I believe coaches would be good if they get the job. Manny is who I’m hoping for because he’s proven to be elite as a DC and he’s doing a good job at Duke he just needs everything Penn St has to offer and he will be elite. If Manny gets the job there’s not much that will change except winning more football games he knows the system that Penn St has and he’s learned from James Franklin on recruiting. Manny will be a great hire.
Yes he would, Southern. I'd be happy with Manny. I'll bet we wouldn't have average QB's running for long gains all game against us!
That's not how it works Southern... Cignetti didn't need Penn State players to make him elite. If you need other people's players and money to be elite... then you're not elite to begin with.@the-funeral-director Matt Rhule or Manny Diaz has had the players that they’ll have at Penn State. Just say no to Manny and Rhule !! If we’re not going to get the big name proven winner like Cig, Elko or Freeman we need to go after an elite young coordinator or a coach that consistently does more with less like Brohm or Campbell.
Rhule and Manny are none of those things.
@roaminglion Cignetti ain’t elite he ain’t won shit yet and neither has Elco. Don’t these dudes need to win a conference championship before we jump to elite status? These dudes ain’t as good as James Franklin and they ain’t damn sure ain’t elite ….yet anyway.
I just checked out Texas A&M schedule and besides ND who they got early just ain’t good Mississippi St is the best win and they’re 4-3. I ain’t saying Elko ain’t a good coach but to think he’s elite is delusional and the season is half over so let’s not jump on 2 coaches that ain’t never won anything and some of y’all want to open up the checkbook for and pay millions of dollars to get ‘em out of their contract is nuts. Ain’t neither one won shit and imo ain’t neither won on the same level as James Franklin. James Franklin just fudged up recruiting the wrong QB’s he’s a very good football coach and he’ll recover if he learns from what he did. The Oregon and ND are good wins don’t get me wrong but it’s just 1 good win and that’s all they’ve done man 😂
@southern-psu-fan who called Cignetti and Elko elite ? And why did you want Franklin fired if he’s so great? Manny has shown what he is at multiple stops which is an elite D coordinator and mediocre head coach. Rhule hasn’t stayed anywhere long enough to prove much of anything other than the fact that he can’t win a big game.
Imo if we hire Rhule it’s gonna blow up in a lot of peoples face and take a long time to recover.
@psujoe Roam said he didn’t need Penn St players to make him elite I was taking that roam thinks he’s elite and the FD is willing to throw the check book out and spend whatever to get him. Now both coaches might be good but neither coach is on the same level as James Franklin.
James Franklin deserved to be fired for the bad decisions he’s made in recruiting that’s left Penn State a dumpster fire.
I might agree with you on Rhule but manny has done a good job at Duke so far. If Penn St hired Manny they won’t have to empty the back account to get him and the dude will at least win 10 games but there’s a very good chance he’ll win more. Looking at it today he’s the best man for the job if he wants it. Just my opinion though
Joe Brady might be the best man for the job I’m taking about between Elko, Cigneti and Manny so I take that back, my bad
@southern-psu-fan who are you talking about that’s not on the same level as JF? If it’s Cignetti you’re effin crazy! Cignetti has proven more in his first two years at effing Indiana than James Franklin did in his final 8 at PSU. In less than 2 years Cignetti has effin Indiana on the verge of being elite ! And I repeat he’s doing it at INDIANA !! And in case you’ve forgotten just 2 years ago they were one of the worst programs in the country.
To say JF is anywhere close to being on the same level as Cig is borderline stupidity.
@psujoe he has one big win against Oregon. Beating up on Rutgers and the rest ain’t no big deal but I agree he has done a great job so far but this season ain’t over and I’ll say it again, until he wins a big 10 championship and beats Ohio State he ain’t on the same level as James Franklin. The Michigan win is a good win too let’s see how this season finished up because I don’t believe Oregon is as good as last year, not even close so we will see and don’t you forget this conversation when Indiana ends up with 3 losses.
@southern-psu-fan When was the last time JF went on the road and beat a top5 team ? Top 10 team? Or even a top 15 team? Has he ever even done it? You’re completely insane if you think JF has accomplished anything close to what Cignetti has accomplished in less than two years.
JF just took his self proclaimed greatest team ever and totally mismanaged it then ran it into the ground.
Cignetti just took one of the worst programs in college football history and turned it into a top 5 team in less than 2 years and he has done the same type of things at every place he’s coached.
Yea beating up on Rutgers ain’t no big deal just like you preaching to us that beating SMU ain’t no big deal but here we are today with SMU dominating a conference that’s big and bad according to you. We don’t need a coach with a record barely above .500 in that garbage ACC conference.
Manny would be an unmitigated disaster. Defensive HC who’s never really won anything as a HC. Never developed a top QB or WR prospect. Why not Tom Allen? It’s the same thing.
Cignetti is the talk of the town, I’ll be interested to see if he can keep this pace up or if it’s just a fluke. I personally don’t care for the guy. He talked a bunch of $hit last year and got boat raced when it counted. Maybe this year is different. I can see him pulling a Harbaugh and jumping to the NFL if his name stays hot.
I know FD thinks everyone is just lining up for the Penn State job but I really don’t believe that. Is it a great job? Yes. Does is come with insane expectations and a short leash? Yes. Florida, Auburn and Florida State will also throw a wrench into what’s available and what’s realistic. My personal belief is Kraft made this decision with someone already in mind.
@kularrow I watched the Duke QB Saturday and he’s not bad I actually believe they have him being top 25 and up for some reward and if we get Manny we probably get him as well. I honestly believe this dude will be a good coach for Penn St and you know how much I love winning…it’s the only thing g that matters at the end of the day in today’s college football. You know I’m a huge Barry Switzer fan too, right? 😂 just win baby. My point is I wouldn’t want a coach that I don’t believe that can win a NC
@psujoe Kraft made it very clear that his goal is to bring a NC to State College in the immediate future. So much so there’s a huge financial risk IE Absorbing some of Franklins buyout, New Staff along with a 700M stadium. Do you think the next guy gets 12 years? Unless I read that wrong you think 7-5, 8-4 and 9-3 in the first three seasons keeps their job?
